Makes you wonder if any of this was clarified between the union and RM. Lot of misinformation thats for sure.

It's clear that the Head of D2D has not thought this through. However, the Head of D2D is an Ops manager. It is likely that Marketing and Sales have screwed up by advertising and selling a service that is operational not feasible. This highlights the problem that those in non-ops roles need more training about frontline issues and rules & agreements.

HOWEVER:
It should be noted that for RM to be a viable commercial proposition they will need to take advantage of future communication ideas. If customers want to send out D2D during the Xmas period, then RM should look to offer this service, but at a price that reflects the impact on the postal round and time reuqired to deliver them. Bear in mind that during Xmas pressure a postie is more likely to viist most of the addresses on their round, therefore I would argue that RM could charge a premium for this service without considerably disrupting a posties round. Also if D2D was put into an overall envelope then you could make even larger profit margins, which again would help ease some of the decrease in volumes from other areas of the business, and also help in terms of not reducing more posts.

This is just a thought and happy to take opinions and views from others

This has been a disaster for the union in terms of good relations with
it's membership,as a point of principle when you have an agreement in
writing, surely it is a matter of courtesy to enquire if delivery is an option,
not to go ahead and book the contract anyway.
the feeling in our D.O. is that it's pointless being in the union and many are
starting to withdraw their subscriptions, even the local rep has had enough,
frustrated by the misinformation, and lack of communication,he was
advised by the area rep that they had to be delivered,no option!
as to Fozz's suggestion that it's not operationally feasible,i think it's quite
the opposite,it has actually been one of the quietest weeks i can remember, and given they can forecast the traffic for the week,it's no
coincidence we're out there delivering D2D's.
a sad day.

Not being on the ground makes it hard for me to know about volumes, but if you say it's quiet then I would be tkaing on whatever work comes my way as something is better than nothing. If volumes are that low then there is going to be more trouble ahead next year.

Sorry to hear vols are down, maybe online parcel fulfillment us up?

Having said that consumer spending is going to come down and RM's volumes mirror that of the economy

"It's clear that the head of D2D has not thought this through , However the Head of D2D is a Op's manager . This highlights that those in non-op's need training in front line issues & agreements "

I agree but it keeps happening , I wonder if non-ops are really bothered about the said issues and more bothered about Leighton & Crozier . That style 's working well , yet another crisis & the usual poor communication from a company headed by a ex Walmart Asda boss who prides himself in clear & direct communication LOL .

Traditionally RM used fire fighting management but now it's constant siege mentality and the little problem of joined up thinking and mixed /conflicting agendas . RM's we know best arrogance is good at pouring petrol on the fires .

Time some of them got acquainted with her
Image- I'm sure the Employment Service could get them work promoting excessive drinking in brewerys or casual retail work selling whelks .

Thanks for highlighting the relevant LTB namely LTB 1046/07 Door to Door During Christmas Pressure Period dated 29 November 2007 issued by Bob Gibson. I have indeed previously read this particular LTB on the CWU website however, this LTB does not make any mention whatsoever of any 20% extra premium payment being made by Royal Mail.

Where's the LTB that refers to an extra premium payment? :speak to the hand :speak to the hand :speak to the hand
