Deal and part timers
I did 11 yrs as a part timer before a full time job became available. My advice is if you're part time the next time the Dom says you're doing a full time cover duty for the week, you say, how, I'm part time, sorry, can't do it. When they realise they NEED more hrs and can't clear the office , maybe getting some more full time duties will become more of a priority. Until then, I'm afraid they will take advantage of you. Anyone who thinks they can walk into their own full time duty in royal mail is dreaming. It took me 11 yrs as part time ,then 3 yrs as full time leave reserve.bigal383 wrote:If you lads are sick of part timers thinking there hard done by why dont u drop your hours and give them your contracts and lets see hiw u lads like it. I think I remember reading a post on here about a D.O. that stuck together and for a couple of days a week part timers refused to work more than their contracted hours and no one else covered the hours. The D.O. ended up in meltdown and several part timers were made up to to full time or hours increased.

Absolutely, I'm part time and have "my own duty",however we have less senior part time reserves who regularly cover full time duties and as such get paid up to 39hrs per wk on overtime, but if a full time opportunity arose I'd jump at it and expect to get it on seniority even though I don't regularly work full time hours.fishtank wrote:Maybe I could ask a simpler question...
Does seniority or length of service or time served or whatever we call it now still apply when allocating increased contractual hours because this agreement seems to suggest it doesn't and to be honest the whole thing isn't really compatible anyway.

For a part time when they do an hour above their contracted hours they get an basic hour which includes an increase in the Delivery Supplement up to 39 hours.regalia25 wrote:dingo wrote:Have you read the agreement ?
Additionally a part timer stands to get 12.3 % pay rise over the three years of this agreement whereas a full time gets 7%.
Why is this spin used so often ?
EVERYONE's hourly rate will be going up by 12.3% !!
Why is it portrayed as being better for part-timer's ? That would only be the case if they only worked their contracted hours.
The vast majority at our place work full time hours, so the SWW will mean they are just being slightly less ripped off with holiday and sick pay !!
For a 25 hour contracted they will get the following increases
Basic £264.29 plus 5% = £278.20 = £13.91
Delivery Supplement £15.34 plus 5% = £16.16 = £0.82
Total increase £14.73
In October when full timers become 38 Hours part timers will get an additional 2.665% pay rise which is
£278.20 plus 2.665% = £285.81 = £7.61
Delivery Sup £16.16 plus 2.665 = £0.44
Total increase £8.05
In April 2018 the 2% pay rise
£286.81 plus 2.0% = £291.64 = £5.83
£16.60 Delivery Sup plus 2.0% = £16.93 = £0.33
Total £6.16
Than additional hour off the working week from April 2018
£291.64 plus 2.665 % = £299.62 = £7.98
£16.93 Delivery Sup plus 2.665 % = £0.46
Total £8.44
Deal for a 25 hour part timer over 3 years is £37.36 per week increase where as a full timer get 7% and £30.95 per week.

and right there ladies and gentlemen is what's wrong with this Union..... the CWU don't give a sh*t about part-timers and most full-timers have a 'I'm all right Jack' mentality. Same as already been said, if any full timers want to swap contracts give us a shout.rambo1 wrote:Look, my full time duty takes 45hrs on average to complete. Do I get my contract upped to 45hrs? No. Part time is part time, full is full and anything over is overtime. They can't make you do 39 hrs on a 30 contact just as they can't make me do 45 on a 39. It may not be right but I'm sick of part timers on here thinking they are so hard done to.clashcityrocker wrote:Here is what I don't understand....... (1 of many things)
Imagine postie A breaks his leg. He is a rest day cover and the 4 part timers whose duties he covers are all asked to work their day off to cover the absence.
They are paid 7 hours overtime each so they are working a 32 hour week.
Postie A has a bad break followed by an infection (like Cazorla) and is off for over 6 months.
Do those 4 posties get a temporary increase in their contracts or after 6 months will they (as I believe most of them expect) get a permanent increase to their contract?
One of the 4 has 3 weeks annual leave after the third month.
Will he get the 32 hours in his holiday pay?
Whereas another has his 3 weeks after Postie A returns, so he won't get any increase in his holiday pay?
What happens?
Or question 2.
If they are guaranteeing to cover the overtime will it be paid as SA?
How do you pay a part timer SA and still maintain his correct delivery supplement?

No they won't, they'll get the same 12.3% as everyone else as they'll be working 2 hours less per week.dingo wrote:For a part time when they do an hour above their contracted hours they get an basic hour which includes an increase in the Delivery Supplement up to 39 hours.regalia25 wrote:dingo wrote:Have you read the agreement ?

Don’t really understand the argument about holiday pay everyone gets their contracted hours pay when on leave anything above is overtime which is voluntary someone on 39 hrs might do 60 hrs every week but he’ll still get his contracted hours which he signed up for so if you are pt and going over your hours it’s just overtime if you disagree with it refuse

If all the part timers in our office refused to work any more hours than their contract, all the full timers would just gladly lap it up. A few of us have tried it before and only worked our 25 or 30 hours, only to find the full timers grinning like Cheshire cats and creep-arsing around the Dom get all the overtime themselves. So you've got some lads on 25 hours and others on 50 hours. But I suppose that's fair.rambo1 wrote:I did 11 yrs as a part timer before a full time job became available. Because people want what they're entitled to, other employers have been taken to the Employment Appeal Tribunal for the same reason. https://home.kpmg.com/uk/en/home/insigh ... ay.html#02Driver74 wrote:Don’t really understand the argument about holiday pay everyone gets their contracted hours pay when on leave anything above is overtime which is voluntary someone on 39 hrs might do 60 hrs every week but he’ll still get his contracted hours which he signed up for so if you are pt and going over your hours it’s just overtime if you disagree with it refuse

Well maybe everyone including full timers should get their regular hours plus overtime when they are on leave otherwise maybe that’s discrimination

The Postman : There is no reduction in part timer contracts as a result of the shorter working so they get a pay increase instead. This has happened in every reduction in the working week we have had and I started on 43 hours as a full timer.

I get where your coming from that the sww benefits part timers more as there is no loss in hours, however everyone will be on the same hourly rate, so everyone will have the same % pay rise. The part timers benefitting more is just a consequence of the full timers working less hours for the same wage, if RM were to not increase part timers wage in line with full timers then this would lead to a massive discrimination case against them. You can't pay 2 people a different wage for doing the same job.dingo wrote:The Postman : There is no reduction in part timer contracts as a result of the shorter working so they get a pay increase instead.
