Yes, and as such they had a big demo in London for the BT Equal pay campaign.

As for Terry I believe they are still in negotiations although I have no idea if an when Moya is jetting of to Canada.

Although let's be realistic here, nothing is going to be agreed on in the last week before Christmas and the pressure is now off both sides, hopefully, they are meeting but anyone expecting a last-minute resolution, or an outstanding good news update is probably on a hiding to nothing.

Me personally, I hope Terry does have a chance to recharge his batteries, this is an important time for us and him exhausting himself is not going to make the outcome any better.

Every update goes the same way though:

"We are seeing Royal Mail more open to negotiation, but the union is disagreeing with every motion they put forward"

That isn't progress, that is being towed along, and we are all going for a ride. Once Christmas is over, suddenly Royal Mail will up sticks, put a crappy offer on the table, and be done with it.

Later acceptance times at MC - it's the future maan!!

Who exactly is the customer who is sitting at home and suddenly at 9 at night realises they need something so bad that it must be delivered at some point the following day? And why the Donald Duck did this Eureka moment not occur when they got up in the morning when they could have fired off there order to Argos on their iPhone in a toilet cubicle at their place of work.

Is it just me or is it not a fact that most residential special deliveries you break off for come bouncing back to the callers office and are collected 5 days later by somebody in an orange boiler suit who says no rush.

But apparently it's a growing market so just ignore the fact that everyone and their uncle including doctors on £100k are ordering packets on the slow boat from China to save 2 quid on a pair of nail clippers.

s**t! I've just realised I've no pillows..now if only that Royal Mail..... bastards

Will RM be employing some more part timers? If they don't get a few more staff then DOs could be looking at getting their work an hour latter. MCs struggle to clear on night shifts now so take an hour out and that leaves two likely outcomes:

1) Work starts failing every night
2) The work goes to the DO later.

And that's before you factor in the latter acceptance times

Well I suppose the longer Royal Mail and the CWU are in "talks" the longer we can enjoy what we currently have at the moment.

This Union are clearly basing any agreements around their "4 pillars". I don't understand much about the pensions but what I do know is that the members of a Union will not accept a pay cut in real terms just for working less hours in the week AND accepting both 1. bigger outdoor deliveries and 2. later finish times.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

What is amazing me, is seeing the ridiculous amounts of parcels passing through our office right now, that all these companies seem to want to use our service *despite* these start-times that need changing just for us to compete (apparently). Strange that.

As most of us are back at work in the morning I take it the CWU will be back discussing the pay talks with RM

I suppose as a token gesture they could book a conference room (at our expense) and sit around the table talking to themselves. The other side, Royal Mail, won't be working so it seems rather pointless to expect the Union to be in pay talks with nobody.

However, I do know that they are attending various venues and offices and dealing with the day to day matters of the Union, the stuff that never goes away.
