ATOS spoke to one of the lads from my place over the phone (he's off with stress) they deciced that there was no real reason for him to be off so they sent a jaffer to his house who threatend to stop his pay if he didn't return to work the following week. How can anybody tell over the phone what a persons state of mind is. ATOS another cog in the royal mail bullying wheel

I have no love for the imcompetant of atos, I been wanting an appointment with them for months and they (allergelly) sent my appointment to a postman downsouth with same name and pay as me, and vice versa. I am still waiting for them to come and have a word with my dom about my duties and how best for me to do my job without making it harder for me.

How can the threaten to stop your pay if got a doc line and unwell for work? are they going to take full responsiblity if something happens because they forced a person back to work?? What if the person is awaiting more higher up doctors appts? and with ATOS sometimes its 3 weeks between appts!!

Have been on light duties for 4 weeks following ATOS recommendations, this week i was put back on my usual duty without anyone asking if i was ok, this has now resulted in me having a relapse & looks like another trip to the hospital for a blood transfusion. I don't know who i'm most mad with ATOS for not keeping me on light duties until i'm due to go into hospital for tests, managers for chucking me back on my duty assuming i was OK or myself for not telling them i did'nt think i was up to doing my duty

There is a limit to light duties and what usually happens is that a programme of return to normal working is agreed between all parties. I do think the time limit IS four weeks unless there are extenuating circumstances which should have been discussed at the outset of recommencing work. You presumably started on light duties with reduced hours and gradually worked back up to full time hours. What is your duty and how has it created a relapse?

I did'nt have any sort of reduction in hours when I returned to work, went straight back into 40 hours, my light duties consisted of throwing off walks (loads of them!), sorting mailsort and running out any late specials in the van. Apparently the only reason I was put on light duties was that they did'nt want me keeling over in callers as they won't spare anyone else to work up there, they tried to even get me bag tipping, but I told them they got more chance of winning the lottery than me doing that. The managers and ATOS are/were well aware that I'm due to go into hospital next week for a General An. biopsy & tests, why could'nt they keep me on light duties till then, they've just made me ill again.

My sympathies for both the ill health and the circumstances, I know it is no consolation but at least you get paid when you are on the sick, so really the answer is to go sick and stay there until the problem is resolved. If your absence is attributable to the same cause and it is, and it is documented as such and it is, then your health is of paramount importance so your absence on ill health grounds is perfectly explainable. Take it easy and rest yourself, the callers office at this time is no place for someone under the weather.

This may sound daft but what is this ATOS I am reading and hearing so much about?

ATOS Orgin are the Employment Health Service RM use to bully people back to work.

The OHS (Occupational Health Service) have been outsourced - ie privatised and are now called ATOS Origin, and charge RM for each referral.

That doesn't work L Tommo. I was told by a manager that they aren't afraid of Lawyers, as they have the might of RM behind them.

They claim that they have "a duty of care to phone regularly to check on your progress" and that twice a week is perfectly acceptable. And that if a manager doesn't do so, then he/she is failing in his/her duties. The fact that these calls have NOTHING TO DO WITH HOW YOU ARE RECOVERING, AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH TRYING TO GET YOU BACK INTO WORK ASAP MAKES THAT STATEMENT TOTAL BULLSHIT in my view. Oh, and aparently, we can't reffer to it as harrasment, as that is a Legal Term!

So lets say a person is of 7 or 8 weeks and they had not received a phone call from the office? Is the manager up for conduct?? What if they are getting reports back from Atos or doctors ect about an indivduals progress, does getting those mean that they have no reason to phone you to your home??

they call them "welfare" calls and it's "our new approach to absence . removing the barriers " -RM's "justification " is their contracted out hack doctors "know better" re. your job than a specialist/your GP .

There are places that if you go absent and fail to inform /keep in contact you have repudated your contract -i.e, you can't be bothered informing us , we can't be bothered employing you .

RM have tried the "lack of committment " or "You have shown your not taking your job seriously enough " number in RTU"s and they've tried the "We don't want to take you down the conduct code for unauthorised absence by failure to inform " a few times .

That legal term nonsense is the usual RM twisting things on it's head and using the 97 Harassment Act which was originally meant for the victims of stalkers as to cause alarm , distress etc to your poor beleaguered DUM/SM etc . Only RM is allowed to do this as it's "operationally necessary " and "behaviour to get results "

That bit about the "might of royal mail " usually means RM having to use the sort of solictors that would try and get Stevie Wonder a driving licence .It's Arrogant Siege Mentality Management and adverse inferences can be drawn from that approach in a ET .

Members have shopped ATOS hacks to the General Medical Council and people have alleged DDA discrimination in ET's . You'll find if any ATOS hacks were challenged and contradicted they'd soon pass the buck to Royal Fail's "management " . In the NHS & Private Health Care, they're not paying Indeminity Insurance & BMA & RCN subs for nothing .Plenty of ambulance chasing solictors that could challenge ATOS/RM ??

It's nothing new , "non core functions" get "outsourced" and ATOS just become the extended legal arm of RM.

Let's face it , ATOS are basically contractors and the golden rule is not to upset the cilent RM & not kill the goose that lays the golden egg.

I've never known anything so shoddy & amateurish , their paperwork is riddled with factual errors , grammer & spelling mistakes . Their reports are contradictory & beg more questions than they answer as they basically are "desired answers " to set RM "questions " .

The other thing that makes me laugh is that the examining Dr suddenly "promotes " himself to Consultant to give the whole sorry affair; a warped credibility & creedence .

RM's arrogance can be it's achilles heel and if Senior Managers /Area start sounding like Solictors , the law can bite them on the a***. More than one way of skinning a cat but it needs guile & cunning as your'e not exactly dealing with very nice people .

lets not forget atos represenatives are not 'doctors' they may well be well qualified nurses but they are in no way a 'doctor' and at the end of the day it's your gp that gives you the 'yay or nay' no doctor will contradict another doctor after all if its yours opinion that you are not fit to work.

i also belive they have no right to phone you at home regarding lets say how long you are going to be off etc.. no mater iff they do put a 'duty of care' slant on it
