20hr guy was going to be put on a 39hr duty presumably working 19hrs overtime.
Instead 20hr guy gets put on 35hr duty but doesn't want to go over?

Am I missing something?
The way I see it is......
He's being moved to the more difficult duty (with less hours) because the duty holder has had a whinge! He who shouts loudest gets their way in RM!!

He's decided (out of principle and stubbornness) to only do the hours the duty has allocated to it!

TBH if I was him I'd only be working the 20hrs!!
Exactly this. I wish I could afford to stick to 20hrs, thought about trying it in hope of better contract but knowing my luck that wouldn’t happen.

magicw wrote:Why Laugh? Sounds like the duty holder consistently said he could not complete the duty on time. So they moved him and put you on it. Now you haven't completed the duty on time and they' ve added time to it. Seems like the duty holder was right! Putting you on it to test it probably wasn't the right way to do it, but at the end of the day time has been added to the duty. So that's a result.

Worse thing in the World is when you ve been moved onto a duty that a couple of Runners who come in Early do and then the DOM looks at you when you say you cant complete it! Worse still when after a few months the runners pick another duty ( to feck up ) and its left without a revision or test.
Yea I know it’s a result but you gotta laugh at how Royal Mail do things.

The point of the thread was to ask if duty holder can be moved around for no obvious reason and to ask where I stand with regards to refusing to go over. On a side note 35 hour guy gets consistent 35hrs with rotating day off. Me being the 20hour guy relies on the chance of the 39 hour week to help build my wages up, but that’s another issue and not the point of this thread.
Who is the duty holder being moved around against their will?
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

You do know how ridiculous that sounds don't you?
What's a more difficult duty? One that takes longer?

The OP isn't clear what the duty holder is getting out of the deal.

Doesn’t matter what duty holder gets out of it. I was seeking advice for myself. But since you ask, he gets an extra hours pay per day and an easier delivery and earlier finish. But that wasn’t the issue. Issue being he gets to winge and do just caves into him.

Dude you don't get it, his duty wasn't do-able. you confessed yourself that you worked the 35 hours and came back with work. At some point you even walked up to a manager and said something along the lines of "I can't complete within my time". Why are you mad at another postie for complaining about something which by your own admission is not possible.

Also mate as other have alluded you didn't really "cut off" and make a point like you seem to think you did :so there , you worked OT and brought back work because you couldn't complete within the time allocated, there's a difference.

If you want to be mad at someone be mad at the manager because he without him none of the above would be possible, but even then he realised the error of his ways and increased the hours on the duty :Applause

May I suggest that you're the one having a "winge"?

I don’t have an issue with the duty holder at all, in fact fair play to him. I came on here looking advice on how to handle the situation with the dom not to be lectured on what is and isn’t cutting off etc... Get off your high horse and see the thread for what it is.

Bigger picture is the OP is 20 hour contract so just bung him/her 3 hours OT a day yet now they give him/her 4 hours a day but they only get 3 weeks holiday a year and pension entitlement is also not the same as full time but they work more hours than a full timer this place is a f****d up world of the Dickensian era of the new capitalist world!

I don’t have an issue with the duty holder at all
He always claims his duty is too big and is always on doms back about it
I’ve been swapped to accommodate the complaining 35hr guy
Can a dom just do this to please one member of staff

Fair enough picking all those quotes, but it’s true, I genuinely don’t have a personal grudge against him. More of an issue with the system, the individual could be anyone, it’s the culture of what happens that gets me worked up. Been just a little over 4years now of being a so called casual worker and that constant feeling of being s**t on and this was the straw that broke me. It may seem a minor issue but it got to the stage where I wanted to make a point. Never known a place like it for treating those on a low contract with so little respect.

Unfortunately that's very true.

One of the main issues the CWU is trying to find agreement on under its 4 pillars campaign. Ridiculous how staff who work 40 hours plus for 48 weeks of the year can be said to be on just 25 hour contracts and treated accordingly!!!!!!!!! There used to be a thing called an assumed contract? That if you worked for 16 weeks or more at a certain amount of hours that was your Assumed contract.

Also isn't leave accumulated / built up in Hours? I.E for every 7.8 hours you work ( Approx working day ) you get say 0.2 hours leave? So you build entitlement according to the hours you actually work?

Final gripe ( Took me 5 years to get out of this one ) Leave reserve? What the feck is a leave reserve? Where is there even a Leave Reserve Contract?
In an office that's got a One in Six rotating rest day and Long Weekend arrangement or Wallingtons .

Where is it even legal or contracted to turn round and say to a dozen or so Staff . Your a leave reserve youll only ever get a Tuesday off and no long weekends!

Pure discrimination and needs challenging legally. Most Local reps just go along with it. But Where oh Where is there anything in the contract that makes someone a Leave reserve and treated different in Terms of Days off and Weekends off to any one else???????????

I spent first few months working through angard, things only got bad when Royal Mail were so kind to offer me a 13hour contract, took three years of pestering to get that increased to 20hours. Next few years should see a few retirements in our office so fingers crossed I can actually get a decent contract but il not hold my breath. It baffles me that such a large company gets away with treating workers like this. Do the full time hours every week because they need you but your only a part timer when it comes to leave and bonuses etc...

It doesn't sound so ridiculous in the world of RM! Just because a 35 hour duty is down as those hours doesn't mean it can be done in those hours

If its anything like my office, then the 35 hour duties are more like 40+ hour duties!
