Not your problem if it isn't manned and you have a break , Let the DOM do his job and manage as you are Legally entitled to have a break

how does that work in regards to opening hours and customers complaining where shut? i understand where ur coming from in growing a pair and maybe i should, i just feel ive been wronged, as even when i walked in and explained everyone looks at u with daggers like your a piece of s**t for asking.

i need to go on the sick with stress tbh, ive had enough of it.
Terrible to hear but not surprising at all! I can understand that you don't feel comfortable to make an issue of it with the managers. The managers should be looking after their staff's well being more not just cause it is the decent thing to do but because that will mean less sick days.

It's the blatent disregard that gets me, like did that really happen, did it not occur to u I would be left in the s**t all day and night, left to get on with everything

Unfortunately, their tactic is to act oblivious and to stonewall us.

I personally would have shut the office and had my proper break yes the customers would suffer but there is no way you could have got into trouble as you had informed your manager of the situation
I can see how this can be stressful, do you know your rights? if not do some research with knowledge comes power don't let them grind you down and good luck

You are entitled to a 50 minute break, you should have shut shop and gone and sat down at some point in the day when other people were around like your dom.

Agree with others here. Managers have selective hearing. The only way to make sure you're heard is to close office. Pretty sure they'd have done something then.

A few months ago the staff at our callers office was in a similar situation, where his shift finished at midday, he had only had 20 minutes meal relief, so he was owed another 20 minutes. He rang the manager and explained that he was owed 20 minutes meal relief, he did this on at least 4 occasions, therefore giving them plenty of time to sort, as it was the managers fault as they sent his colleague out on delivery and he wasn't back from delivery. So 11:40 arrived, no help arrived so he locked the entrance door. Secured the callers office and handed the keys to the manager and said that's my shift done I'm going home now. Nothing was done to him as he was entitled to his break and I believe the callers was closed for about 30 minutes until someone was available to man the counter. It has not happened since.

This is only my opinion but I think you need to play a bit of hardball.

I'd speak to the rep and ask his advice on the grievance, but if the manager is approachable I would also ask them straight up what they want you to do about your contractual and statutory breaks as you are legally entitled to them. Advise them that if the situation reoccurs you will be submitting a grievance for breach of statutory rights but you'd like to sort this out amicably so it doesn't happen to others.

Also, ultimately, even if you have agreed on overtime, it is still voluntary. Next time they ask, insist before you accept the offer that there must be some time built into it for you to be able to take your break.

If you want effective action taken by the managers, then I am afraid its time to step up and kick them in the balls.
