2D bar codes
Only Tracked and Specials get scanned at inward MCs, 2D barcodes on normal parcels only get scanned at outward MCs

This is the biggest problem, there needs to be a way to reject them if they're non scanable when entering the pipeline.ScousePostie wrote:Also, some of these barcodes are printed at home by the sender via Click and Drop. If their printer doesn't print these barcodes off perfectly, they're not going to scan when they get to us.

2D bar codes
We've been told not to scan the 2d barcodes on letters as they're not in the total for each individual walk. Only packets and parcels. And you're right, it's nearly impossible to scan all those letters never mind it being a pain in the arse.

I did a check one day on all my 2D scans and out of 80 there was 9 that wouldn't scan mostly because they were folded over the corner of Parcels or barcode smudged/or badly printed so roughly 12% unscannable.
At least the old way of RD and Special barcodes they scan 100% of the time and if they are on corners you can peel them off to scan them

Ebay sellers printing their own postage that has 2D barcodes on can now get confirmation of delivery.
It's a different format to the usual barcode - 4 numbers, 1 letter, 4 numbers, 1 letter, 1 number. So numbers like 1234A5678B9
I had one delivered today. Purely a 2D barcode, no signed for etc just 2C parcel postage. Private seller.

After delivery:Status: The service used to send this item only provides an update once we have attempted to deliver it.
As this is not a tracked service we are unable to provide any further details.
Please allow up to 3 working days for delivery, depending on the service used.
No tracking beyond that. I would imagine that the outward MC scan proves the item is in the system and the delivery that it arrived thereby seeking to reduce the number of "not delivered" claims.Latest update: Delivered to your address or a neighbour
We have a record of item XXXXYXXXXYX as being delivered from ZZZZZZZZ DO on 2017-02-16.
Thank you for using Royal Mail.
