Nationally agreed amount of parcels per hour?
Our place is expecting 20 an hour, in rush hour morning traffic, in one of the busiest parts of town.

Never been told any particular number. If you're on Parcels you just pick up a York full of Packets for a particular area that you reckon you can do, make an "Idiots Guide" for which order you're going to deliver them , and then off you go.
If the areas are fairly close to the DO I tend to do several Run Outs (covering different estates) then you can roughly calculate how much Overtime you're going to do.
Never make the mistake of loading your van up fully with loads of parcels and then committing to deliver them!

Is he American?

Ours is 20 per hr but anywhere over that is achievable as long as the parcels are in the same area. If you have 5 drops in one street they can be done within 10 mins so that is a quarter of your hours worth there

These 'richards' should be sacked. Full stop. Just watched the thing on BBC about amazon and realised how lucky we are to work for royal mail and its blokes like this who bring the company down. Gets me really mad.wannabeek wrote:20 an hour in our office. Unfortunately it seems many of the 'old guard' are as invulnerable as they believe. They strut around like they own the place; will only do their own duty, even when in on their day off; smoke in the vans and even openly in the parcel shed; have told the PHG to '**** off' when asked to go back out with mail from another duty having finished before time on a Saturday - they just go home instead.
They get away with things that the rest of us couldn't. Also get paid extra for driving a van, which we all do now, due to their grandfather rights.
The bottom line is that RM management is atrocious because they only pick on the vulnerable staff, yet leave these others to do as they like.
I'd like there to be a revolution in RM and it wouldn't just be the useless managers I'd like to see ejected from this company at the end of it.

They can throw any number they like at you but there are too many variables to make it stick
look at the examples below, barely a mile apart and both in an urban area within 1 mile of a DO, so reasonable to assume that they would typically HCT rounds with oversized going out separately in a van.
One of these areas I fancy my chances of doing 15-20 parcels an hour even including D2N for good measure. The other not so much

Wow, sums up the whole delivery culture of Royal Mail.wannabeek wrote:Why chance it? They do it for 3 reasons.
1: they want to get done early and earn some ghost OT.
2: they are old-timers who believe that they are invulnerable.
3: they like to show off and prove what big hard men they are because they can deliver so many parcels so quickly.
Like I said, so embarrassing.

We were told in our work time learning that an official report has decided that it takes 8.5 seconds to complete a delivery to neighbour!!!!!
So 15 parcels an hour should be easily achieved surely

You know the red yorks they use to transport packets in the lorries? The full size ones not the half size? I've been delivering one of those full of parcels everyday this past 2 weeks, & that's on top of letters etc... is this normal!? Does anyone else have rediculous amounts of parcels each day!? I must count every single parcel tomorrow & see how many I get through per hour...

Yep and there is an LTB about it http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 15&t=77142" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;mr hil. wrote:We were told in our work time learning that an official report has decided that it takes 8.5 seconds to complete a delivery to neighbour!!!!!![]()
:
LTB 652.16 External Mediation : Delivery to Neighbour Values
soDuring the period of the review referred to in 1) and 2) above, the status quo of a value of 8.2 seconds for door step transactions, which includes the task of ‘delivery to a neighbour’, is applied.

I presume RM thinks it takes
1 second to run up the path
1 second to knock the door
2 seconds to wait
2 seconds to write the docket out
1 second to run down the path
1.2 seconds to put the parcel back in the van
8.2 seconds per parcel delivery ....simples
