Re: One wave
So most people started at royal mail to finish at a reasonable time with contracts giving the finish time.
Each person will need to agree to this surely?
Forget a so called union agreement. A union isn't going to pick my kids up from school and make their dinner for them.so it should be on an individual basis.

it kinda doesnt work that way, we`re pretty much in a collectively bargained contract to do "postal duties" for 39 hours a week (or however many hours your particular contract has) The actual working day hours arent necessarily set in stone.mancpat wrote:So most people started at royal mail to finish at a reasonable time with contracts giving the finish time.

Re: One wave
Your working day is in your contract. I've no idea where mine is considering it was so long ago. But I remember I was once told I was doing a late collection and I told my boss it was outside my contracted hours. I had other things to do back then. Now I have kids to look after so I'm even less likely to budge on this.Postie45 wrote:it kinda doesnt work that way, we`re pretty much in a collectively bargained contract to do "postal duties" for 39 hours a week (or however many hours your particular contract has) The actual working day hours arent necessarily set in stone.mancpat wrote:So most people started at royal mail to finish at a reasonable time with contracts giving the finish time.

Re: One wave
When i started it said any hours and you will be required to do overtime with reasonable notice if required and that was 20+ years ago so the new contracts must be better?mancpat wrote:So most people started at royal mail to finish at a reasonable time with contracts giving the finish time.

Re: One wave
Is it fair to assume you have worked on the pilot? what exactly are the new working practices ? we're there teething problems? did you still use the frames if not how did you get the mail? anyone else out there with first hand experience of the new arrangements?wheresourmoney wrote:Our area rep came into our office yesterday and told us all it was a go and that royal mail hope to have it all up and running by 2018, the worst part of the plan for a lot of us was the 10 am start and the 6pm finish, also the walks will be 6 hours long, and the union are giving it their full backing. Any of you young lads and ladies reading this it,s not to late to find a good career elsewhere , the building trade is looking really good at the moment, for a lot of us it is already to late.

Apparently now the hours are written into the contract too.k979aaa wrote:When i started it said any hours and you will be required to do overtime with reasonable notice if required and that was 20+ years ago so the new contracts must be better?mancpat wrote:So most people started at royal mail to finish at a reasonable time with contracts giving the finish time.

I was paired up with a new girl last week who said her contract says 0930-1430 (or something like that) and she only took the job on so she could drop her daughter off and pick her up. She explained in her interview she couldn't go over these hours except on school holidays where her husband can look after her. Royal mail were fine about it. She's been here around 18 months now and is on a permanent contract.

Re: One wave
If one wave does come in then the writing may well be on the wall for all DOs that can't handle 17.5ton lorries (including having them unload in a yard and not on the street). Locally it'd probably mean at least 1/3 of DOs having to move

Re: One wave
New contracts and combining of DOs, that was a strong rumour when I was still there.

Re: One wave
Let's gets things straight there is no agreement from the union to anything and will not be any agreement on 6 hour spans.
Now let's get this right ! This is Royal Mail Strategy not the CWU. if Royal Mail www not unionised or had a strong union they would be implemented the plan straight away.
There are 3 phases to the Royal Mail's Strategy
1st Phase - Tops 2000 have been modified and are now able to sequence large letters and flats , 65% of delivery offices could move to one wave retarding start times but still able to get out on delivery at the normal time.
MEDCs have had a improve bit of kit introduced which is seeing more letters being able to be machine sorted over the last few months reducing staff but meaning less manual.
Changing when the outward and inward finishes in mail centre , professional drivers who currently run work into delivery offices during the night being reviewed , more 17 tonners.
Review of MPUs as one wave will show via automiss the gaps in workload.
Later starts and later finishes in DOs
Later acceptance times for mail centres for customers
Phase 2
Review of delivery offices who are not in the initial 65% one wave to see if they can be merged into other delivery offices 400 delivery offices to go out of 1500.
Purchase of the 20 large letter sequence machines which are intended to do all the sequencing of work for a Delivery Office
Walk Optimisation final mile
Production Control clocking in and out of each task and start and finish similar to the RFID system.
Closing inward operations for all mail centres who do not have a large letter machine and some will close , others may become a cross docking inward operation purely for drivers to take the work to DOs
Phase 3
Delivery operation with no inward apart from a bull ring for parcels.
Reduction in staff
And a real issue over hours to workload in DOs
So you see it is a huge problem and challenge and it is not the CWUs plan but we are going to have to front it up.

"So you see it is a huge problem and challenge and it is not the CWUs plan but we are going to have to front it up."
What does that mean precisely one might ask? Does it mean that the CWU will fight the plans or "front it up" to the members as an acceptable way forward.
My experience from the past tells me when dingo raises his head above the parapet it's never good news.

Re: One wave
At my branch AGM it was mentioned and RM do want it in but the CWU are against it lots of Pow Wows discussing whats a-coming as it is reckoned it will be officially put forward at the pay talks this year. They're saying the trials haven't gone as well as expected (re 11am mail arrivals) but when has that stopped RM before? They want it in mainly as a cost cutting measure whether it works or not. I also spoke to a Mech Manager about my MC going one wave and he told me we can't do it because of the high levels of work we've got. Not enough machines or staff. Weekly we peak at 3000+ yorks that's just the night figures, so space would be an issue. Apparently the big ruck is that RM not following the terms of reference re these trials.wheresourmoney wrote:Our area rep came into our office yesterday and told us all it was a go and that royal mail hope to have it all up and running by 2018, the worst part of the plan for a lot of us was the 10 am start and the 6pm finish, also the walks will be 6 hours long, and the union are giving it their full backing. We should get more info within a month as this idea is based on a Norwegian Model apparently Norway have MCs that cover hundreds of miles just watch this space and prepare for the blue funky horn to be blown

Re: One wave
Oh yes almost forgot to add this one wave plan is only part of the jigsaw later collections are on the card and latter arrivals at MCs so all functions will be affected in one way or another
