This is another case of cutting corners to be able to get back early, and ghost the overtime ,and don,t forget in RM its who you know not what you knowIloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:So much time can be saved by...
Overfilling your HCT/LWT (104/32Kg respectively), so that you do not have to replenish at the van or bag drop
Locking up HCTs at the end of streets for more than 10 minutes
Leaving LWTs unattended for more than 1 minute, while you deliver to a multi-storey block of flats
Using a pouch on slightly heavier days on a HCT duty, when there is too much to carry by hand
Filtering mail for the next address while on the move, instead of standing still outside the previous address, risking an accident which could result in your sick pay not being paid
Giving occupants less than 1 minute to answer an attendance call
Leaving parcels in insecure places, such as on doorstep; inside unlocked porches; in wheelie bins; under flower pots etc.
Cutting across the grass or hurdling a low wall/fence to get to the next address, instead of using the intended pathway
etc. etc.
The above could easily account for over an hour difference in delivery time between two OPGs on the same duty, with a very similar workload, one working correctly and one breaking from correct protocols.
I don't understand how some OPGs who consistently finish early, get away with prepping some/all of their own duty's D2D for the following day before they go home (often still early), when surely managers should be getting them to prep D2D for other duties that are regularly claiming overtime.

Might be time to bringing clocking on/off in and make sure it is controlled ie no Buddies doing it for you. That will surely stop the Runners and Ghosters

Re: Leave work when you want or leave when its time to leave?
No way should we work to our time and not be able to finish early if we push a little harder.
Its my back, and my legs, if i choose to carry a bit more or walk a little faster its up to me, only i will suffer the consequences if i injure myself.
This is one of the only jobs left where you can benefit from working harder to finish earlier, i for one prefer my social life to my work life.
Work is just that, a means to acquire money, nothing more nothing less, we are not scientists, explorers, inventors etc.
Till the field for longer and your ready for summer quicker, stalk the prey for longer and you eat sooner, deliver the mail quicker and you go home to rest.
Thats it - its work - work less time - enjoy more life time.

You state that only you will suffer the consequences if you injure yourself while rushing around to get an early finish?
That isn't true. What magic pot do you think your sick pay would come out of? (or maybe your EVR pay if you really cripple yourself) - Our profits, I believe.
Also, what about the poor geezer on that round the next day when he needs to claim overtime yet you can complete before time thanks to dangerously rushing?
Your actions do have consequences for your colleagues.

The faster you go, the more tired you are. You don't need to be a scientist to work that out. Or that the more you go home early, the more work the managers will look to put on your duty. Then you've ruined it for whomever does it while you're off.
Just work to bloody time.

Re: Leave work when you want or leave when its time to leave?
The ideal solution would be to dock pay from those coming in early and redistribute that pay to those who came in on time
For example in an office of 20 workers, one day 10 come in an hour early
Those 10 hours are then distributed between the other 10 workers so one hour each
Would never happen though
But if it did happen, it would solve the problem overnight

Re: Leave work when you want or leave when its time to leave?
Did you know there's a menu option of the Fiat vans to turn off the Daylight Running Lights? I mention this because I can't really think of any reason why go to the trouble of finding this and turning them off, unless it was to disguise the fact that they where leaving the engine running whilst getting out of the van? Since they also trained me on a round I also know for a fact that they seem to regard seatbelt as optional too. (Plug the passenger side one into the driver's bracket to stop the warning bleeper going off.) Both of those activities will speed you up slightly each time you get out of and back into the van ...IloveMYredTROLLEY! wrote:So much time can be saved by...

Re: Leave work when you want or leave when its time to leave?
Sounds like you need a revision if you can finish an hr early on Tues! I'm full time and my Tues hrs are 7.30 - 14.00 Inc Meal relief.postiewhite wrote:I'm talking about days when you can finish on time or a few mins early are you allowed to go as long as everything is cleared? In regards to our office on light days when there is nothing to do people just go upto an hour early on light days such as a tuesday. I have worked in other offices where they have a policy that no one is allowed to leave until the last postie is back unless it goes over time which i think works and stops people rushing around hell for leather to get away early and entice them to actually go and help the ones who are on longer duties. in our office there are some easy duties where it can be done in 3 hours, sometimes less and others which take upto 5 hrs and cannot in any way finish early on light days.
what are your thoughts on being allowed to finish then go early or waiting for the last person to come back to office before being allowed to leave.?

Actually mate, the company suffers if you injure yourself and go sick.franco1 wrote:No way should we work to our time and not be able to finish early if we push a little harder.

Re: Leave work when you want or leave when its time to leave?
I think you misunderstood what i tried to say.
I dont believe in rushing around, what i mean is that some of us are faster than others and still do the job safely and properly, obviously depends on the walk too.
What i dont want is to finish early and then have to go on and do more work until my official finish time.
Which is why i said that this is one of the few jobs remaining whereby you can finish before your time and go home.
If it comes to a point where i am 'punished' by doing more work because i finish early, then i will simply go slower.

Re: Leave work when you want or leave when its time to leave?
My round lasts about 4 I/2 to 5 hours and the DOM regularly moans about my time on delivery and my answer is always too many parcels on my walk, regularly bringing back 1 to 1 1/2 sacks of parcels back, he always states on my day off the floater always finishes on time.
The other week I worked my day off in the callers office and yes the floater on my round did finish an hour earlier than what I do the round in.
When I asked him for his docketed parcels guess what he didn't have any .
Don't need to be Einstein to work out why he's quicker does it

Re: Leave work when you want or leave when its time to leave?
yes, i think most of us understand what you are saying, but we faced the realisation that job and finish was over at least 3 years ago, and if we do come back we are prepared to do the extra work if requested. Theres an understanding that RM wants us to work our full hours, they dont care if someone feels they work fast or slow, its down to maximising actual man hours, and i cant blame them, people going home early over a whole office has to be inefficient. Most of the "slower" posties are probably just people who realise this already so dont rush around to get back to get given yet more work, but instead do the job do the required standards and no faster. Being sent back out if returning to the office isnt being "punished" its abiding by the terms of your contract of employment.franco1 wrote:I think you misunderstood what i tried to say.

Nobody in my office is sent back out if they finish early and if they do then im SURE they will suddenly abide by the terms of their contract and come back on their time.
It would be waste of time to try and enforce this on posties and management realise this fact.

Trevjim's name is indicative of the way he cuts corners. He was in so much of a hurry he couldn't be bothered to put the space in
