I don't get your gripe. If you work properly does it matter what you do within your time?
If you have to help someone prep, do some lapsing, help someone on delivery etc. As long as it's in your time, so be it.
If the realism of doing that every day means you work a little slower so that you have no time to assist, then so be it.

We have clowns in our office who openly bully other posties - calling them names for being slower than they are.
Issue is that the bullies are going home nearly 2hrs early everyday, rushing round, coming in early, moaning about being given lapsing when the others aren't etc.

The others are working their time everyday, not stressing over anything and go home in the knowledge that nothing can be added to their walks.

Yes, the favourites are the one who kiss arse, come in early, do all the overtime going and don't take breaks.

Of course there is favouritism!!!

You get some staff that are either related or are good friends with management (you see them drinking together on a weekend for example) in decent 'roles' whilst everyone else forms the supporting cast

Supposed to be a conflict of interests now but we know it still goes on......I wouldn't mind training for Dom support, but its never happened in 5 years of asking!!
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
