I don't believe one person delivers to 878 addresses. Is it huge blocks of flats with doors all next to each other?
We have 3 deliveries with over 900 drops, and another half dozen with over 800 in my office. Mainly terraced streets, but some have flats as well....with lots of stairs. The number of packets generated on these rounds has to be seen to be believed. Apart from the rurals, the smallest deliveries have around 450 drops, but these are in the parts of town with driveways and gates to contend with.

A SD, RD or Tracked item will still have another barcode that has the printed number below it.

I'm guessing the new barcodes shown above are part of the new system that will be incorporated into all callers offices where a scanable address may be easier to use than typing in the details manually and the whole tracking from post to delivery.
Read the original post, they want companies to replace the old barcode with the 2d ones, there won't be the old barcode on the packets
The original post doesn't say that at all.
This is to replace labels that currently have no barcode at all and thus at the moment cannot be tracked.
SD, RD and Tracked items already have a barcode and can be tracked (although to a much lesser extent with RD).
You clearly didn't even read the first post it quite clearly says they want customers to use the 2d ones instead of the 1d ones

"We want them to use a 2D barcode (pictured), rather than 1D, or no barcode at all"

Right so you clearly think that these labels that only contain address details are replacing all our existing labels do you?

There is no tracking reference/number info in these labels - they are address details only.
They have been coming through the system for a few months now mainly on SD and RD items and appear as a completely seperate barcode to the existing tracking reference barcode.
Obviously this can be a pain in the arse as your pda can pick up the wrong barcode at times if your not careful.

Again Read the first post it again quite clearly states that these new barcodes are for tracking as well

Why then does the article say they are replacing the old 1d tracking ones then and why does it say they will be used to help improve tracking? It's clearly in the original post. They may not be being used with tracking numbers at moment but they are clearly going to be

Excuse me do we always have to whip the horse to the winning post. Please people don't get antsy with each other, state your position and leave it at that. If someone disagrees with you there is absolutely no point at all to keep banging on about it unless you give new information or insight. This is not a game, no one wins, its a discussion board people will disagree with you, live with it and give the rest of us some peace.

A 3d barcode would make everything very bulky.

If the 2d barcode is badly printed, what then?
Chances are that the normal barcode would be printed badly as well

But I think his point is when it's badly printed at least the old barcode had the number written below which you could manually type in where as with the 2d ones it won't be
That's what I meant - had to type in the numbers manually a couple of times today. Pesky PDAs with pesky badly printed barcodes!

But it doesn't say that they are replacing our old 1D tracking barcodes, and since we already have someone saying they've seen them on items with both the 2D and 1D barcodes it would seem to be the case that they're not.

I know of a similar delivery in my office, with streets upon streets of terraced houses.

I used to do it many years ago. There's pro's and cons to it - great because of having no paths to walk up and down, but a headache having so many door to doors to put together

My old walk had 986 delivery points. 70 odd four story victorian tenement stairs and the rest. I've moved office so christ knows what it's been combined with in p&l.

You'll be unsurprised to hear my old office is a consistently "failing office".

On topic, yeah, the barcode situation has been poor lately. Tracked, recorded and specials all look alike. The QR reader thing is adding another huge lump of potential fail.

What is the point of the 2d barcode on 24 and 48 packets if they are not tracked? Surely they won't give away signed for service for free.

I think its for the MC only finger point scanning so that bulk senders can get a better idea of where it is in the system. Its not a delivery tracking system.

Is also going to be used for helping enter address details into the newer callers office system SPS, on non delivered items.
