Postal workers to receive missing people alerts

Just one more reason for failing batteries - they've a job to actually carry out the task they were designed for. The majority of our PDAs and we have 91 are 3 years old so those with a relatively late revision they are going to be newer and less knackered. Still with only 12 working days left who gives a damn.

I know I am going against the crowd on this one, but I think its a good idea.

It won't cost us any work time, well beyond a few seconds reading the alert, and as I already look out for stray dogs and cats on my round when asked, I think keeping an eye out for a lost person is no biggy. As to the number alerts there are usually very few major UK wide ones, and locally I think we have 2 major cases in the last year, they turned up safe.

The real benefit, and the reason RM are backing backing is it reinforces the claim that we are part of the community.

I agree, good pr and reinforcing that postman/women are part of the community. But the initial press release states a few porkies. there isn't 124,000 people delivering mail and the pda's are not up to spec to receive pictures.

Not too sure about the premise of catchee monkey, what would be next - have you seen this armed robber, sex offender, et al. Pretty much spending all the time looking at people instead of delivering mail. Lets increase the police force, PCSOs and so on.

It is a nice idea, but it is too impractial. I mean I only have three request in 9 years. 1 for a child who ran off, 1 for a dog and 1 from a police looking for someone.

Perhaps 95% of these missing people are missing for a reason and dont want to be found.
Could it be that they are over worked and stressed out ex-postal operatives who just want to be left in a darkened room.

Also if you found a missing person and phoned the police to notify them,where is that person going to be when the police arrive 2 hours later?
