Royal Mail cuts half its later collection times

Just saw the News, and it stated..."Post Boxes will in the future, be collected by postmen/women during their rounds..." etc...etc.
And, with the Delivery to Neighbours scheme, we are getting about 1/3 of our normal packets/parcels returned as N/A's.

So, does this mean that any offices, like ours, would have minimal reason to stay open til 6.30pm then?

What will happen to the PHG 2 afternoon/evening staff, who work from 1.30pm til 6.30pm???
And Evening SA collections - although I assume some Post Offices will still need collections - this will kill peoples O/T too.

It will effect (1) Collection drivers and ....(2) it will bound to reduce O/T on collection ...perhaps less S/A collections...I am not sure how they are going to sort it out ? but its not good news at all for collection drivers .

I am probably going to be shot for this, but it does make good business sense. Less OT payments and with delivery staff collecting at set times they wont be able to finish early

It's like saying come and spend in our store but we're shutting early every day so tuff! No wonder they're losing sales !

Privatisation hitting home still my finish time is 1300 so I am not bothered what they do.

Please explain this then its a park and loop in many offices so if a P & L team finish at 2pm the driver gets punished as the the driver will have to be at the collection box at 3pm so does the partner go home?

What about S.A collections? A lot of businesses like their mail collected at the end of the day i,e. 5pm.

I think the report said between 9am-3pm so I guess your DOM will decide what time a box will be on a delivery to fit in with work times. I can see the point in some rural boxes but how long before even in large towns there will be only about 3 boxes with 5pm times and mail flowing back out of the slot as the customers try and shove some more letters in there!!

It's bad enough finding a p.o. , then parking near one, then queuing, then the staff moan at you , and it's a rush getting it there before the 4:30 cut off time and they wonder why stamped mail is down! probably scrap value for 115000 boxes would be a better earner than stamped mail.

I think unless the customer pays a higher charge to choose a collection time then your collections manager chooses what time they get their pick up, but this is just about boxes remember, pretty sure business collection times will stay the same for now!!!

Is is time that every Postman/woman did just as they ask us to do. No cutting corners or doing what we know. Just do what they ask. Use a trolley, knock on at least 3 neighbours ( not where you know ;) ) with every packet n fn tracked. Bring it all back for the DOM to deal with..then the tossers higher up may just think before they implement something stupid..that they would never have been able to do when they were inadequate lazy posties.
