They're basing it on the tracked deliveriesSerious question, how do they work out the first time delivery rate? They know the number coming back but they cant know for certain the number going out? Or is it a "make it up to beat the staff with"

Apparently the customer wants it delivered first time.
Here's an idea - make sure you're bloody in then!

So get to know the customers on your walk and you can leave most of your packets with neighbours. Ok, but if you're a reserve in a big office like me, you're on a different walk everyday. Theres noway you can remember a whole towns worth of customers. And if this is the road RM wants to go down, why don't they update the PDA software to include a 'left with neighbour' option. All the courier firms have it. Atleast that way your back is covered when leaving tracked and recorded with neighbours. I wouldn't trust half the people in this town with looking after someone elses parcels.

Seaton delivery office in Devon has one of the best first-time delivery rates in the UK. Here’s some of their top tips.
Know your neighbours
Postman Andy Widger says: ‘One of my top tips is get to know your customers, and if possible, on first name terms. Then you’ll know where to leave a parcel if one of your customers isn’t in.’
Follow the rules
Delivery office manager, Paul Clode says: ‘If your parcel has a Safeplace instruction, leave it in a safe place. If it doesn’t, and your customer is not in, attempt Delivery to Neighbour*.’
Delivery to Neighbour
‘First-time delivery is vital,’ says postman Derek House. ‘People want their items and they want them as soon as possible.
‘Delivery to Neighbour is something that some of us have been doing for years and years. Now it’s been rolled out nationally, it can only be a good thing.’

Whilst I agree with the sentiment it behoves me as an Admin on here to point out that part of the process for DTN is to leave a "Red Card", and whilst they may not get you for leaving it with the neighbour, if they are picky they will get you for failure to follow a process.framusjsx wrote:Gave a tracked to a neighbour last week (thursday) the customer complained over the weekend they hadnt got it...
didnt leave a red card as the neighbour said well see them later so dont worry. not my problem as far as im concerned its gone to the neighbour as we are told to do so

Re: Seaton sees success
Fairly light day today wasnt pressed for time so tried to make the effort with delivery to neighbour. On a town round, loads of packets, and no one was in as usual. Tried the neighbours either side and 90% of the time they werent in either! So red card it is and back it goes. It's ok for the ones that have been on their own rural round for years, leaving parcels in sheds, greenhouses, etc. Some of them even sign for them themselves. This greatly reduces the amount of parcels they bring back.

Re: Seaton sees success
So if i leave parcels with the 8 chinese lads living in the same house,Or the 10 poles that live in the same house this would be ok?
The drug addicts on parts of an estate i deliver?
The bloke who has just got out of Jail for thieving from a catalougue?
Ridiculous company we now work for,I can never remember people in uproar that we never left parcels with neighbours so why all the crap now?

Even the rurals will get the same attention as other offices soon. If a customer complains, signing for an item yourself is a dismissal in my office. It happened in a local office and our DOM has told us if it happens, you're out.Jpro747 wrote:Fairly light day today wasnt pressed for time so tried to make the effort with delivery to neighbour. It's like some offices are living in 2001, I can tell you now there are some major shocks in store for them.

Re: Seaton sees success
I watched the video about Seaton DO at this weeks WTLL with a wry smile on my face.
Basically if you deliver in an area where everyone knows each others business and the postie is seen as a local servant, then you'll get 95% first time.
I imagine these posties are the type that have the time to take old ladies down the shops in their van, fix a broken lightbulb, cut the hedges etc
