Good afternoon

Thank you for your email to Moya’s Just Say It site. I am part of this team and have been asked to reply.

Our rules on bank holidays have been around for years and the 17 July joint statement was produced to reassure people that the introduction of the new People System Portal (PSP) would make no changes to agreed terms and conditions. Looking back at the joint statement I see the section on bank holidays was not as clear as it could have been and I understand why you’ve asked your question.

What should happen according to the rules which PSP has not changed is that when a bank holiday falls on someone’s rest day they should be given another day off that week. If that is not operationally sensible or is impracticable the people involved can have a day added to their holiday allocation or claim the hours as normal weekday overtime.

Without your details I am unable to ask your Delivery Office Manager to talk with you and your colleagues to clarify how these arrangements will work on future bank holidays. The benefit of our bank holidays is that they give everyone additional time off so when someone does not take their bank holiday due to it coinciding with their rest day the norm should be to try to give them another day off. Where that is impossible they can take the time as normal overtime which of course would not give them time off which was the intention of the bank holiday.

I hope my email has provided you with the clarification you were seeking and if I can help further please contact me.

Kind regards

Jane

No it means exactly what it says, if your day off is a bank holiday and the managers cans swap your rest day to another day that week then YOU get the choice to have a day credited in lieu or take the option of a days payment. It's also cleared up in the PSP agreement and te previous 2 Christmas arrangments agreements.

Korky sent you PM

Taken from this years Christmas agreement....

3.4 Rest days will apply in line with normal year round arrangements. Attendances may be varied by local agreement to take account of workload forecasts and service requirements. Where workload requires people can volunteer to work their normal rest day in return for a day in lieu or scheduled attendance

Where a rest day falls on a Bank Holiday (i.e. 25, 26 December or 1 January, plus 2 January in Scotland) and it is not operationally sensible to transfer the rest day to another day in the same week people will receive an additional day holiday (including those working ‘a week off in six’ or other variations on this theme) in the form of a day in lieu or alternatively the excess hours can be taken as normal overtime

And this is taken from the People Portal System (PSP)

Normal Bank Holiday arrangements will continue to apply. Employees who work a bank holiday will continue to get either overtime or a day in lieu. The number of hours worked on the Bank Holiday will be credited back into the annual leave quota* (as a bank holiday day off in lieu). The system automatically credits hours worked back to the employee when the correct bank holiday payment is selected. Arrangements for part timers will continue to be pro-rated to ensure everyone is treated fairly regardless of the days in the week they work.

*For clarity where an individual works 2 hours or more and they choose a day in lieu they will be credited with hour’s equivalent to their average attendance for that week.

Where an individual’s rest day coincides with a Bank Holiday they will have the option of being credited with a day in lieu equivalent to the hours they would normally work on that day or alternatively they can claim BH excess equivalent to the hours they would normally work on that day

You're right it's the fairest way and we have all been new at some point and served our time but it seems the new generation aren't prepared to serve some time and move up the list.

I work part time 4 hour shifts Tuesday to Saturday. I worked an 8 hour shift (no option to work 4) on Good Friday choosing option A, day in lieu.I assumed time in lieu would be 8 hours meaning I would be entitled to 2 days leave. I have been told that I only get ONE lieu day (4 hours).Does the statement "...credited with hour's equivalent to their average attendance that week" mean basic hours or include overtime.
