a lot of managers spend the shift doing OPG duties sorting letters and flats etc and pushing yorkies round the office, Most of them have cut their own throats my showing that they haven't enough to do by doing this. Only got themselves to blame.

Bristol Mail Centre should hear by the end of this week about manager redundancies. Has to happen soon as isn't the Royal Mail deadline before the end of June. Looks like the original numbers proposed to go has been reduced. Perhaps there going for a half way position, seeing what happens first, and then getting rid of more later. Even then at least 10 are expected to go, all of which are voluntary.

A lot of managers will simply be pleased to get out with a reasonably decent VR package to escape the nepotism and B&H that they are subjected to themselves whilst RM will continue to recruit and employ graduate entrants to swan around with clip boards on WCM and other meaningless projects.

To all you old c***s who say you worked hard and deserve what you have, think about the youngsters who are doing 3 times the work you did for s**t pay and no pension and all the council homes that are not being built because you want your house prices to carry on going up. Also, think about how the labour market has been flooded with cheap immigrant labour and the schools that are overcrowded and underfunded. In your day, you could get a job in the public sector because there was a 60/40 split between appointments to those with connections and those without. The cuts now mean all jobs go to people with connections. We have gone back to the time of the Smiths, Bakers etc. when jobs were passed down from generation to generation.

And by the way, you greedy bastards who bought your council houses but still like to think you are "working class", f**k off. You are Tories with regional accents who thought you were crafty getting the private sector to deliver services but didn't look far enough ahead to see the queues and s**t service. You have ruined the country.

You have disgraced your parents' generation who fought a war for decency. You are the most spoilt generation there has ever been and you can stick your Daily Mails up your pile clogged arses.
What are you talking about? are you sure you are on right website? what have you written ... whats' got to with Royal Mail?

An old British Leyland factory from the 70's was recently knocked down and he was found in the canteen handcuffed to the tea machine shouting about workers rights,he's a harmless dinosaur

Manager redundancies at Bristol Mail Centre, due to be announced this week, have now been delayed until the middle of June. The CMA blocked the announcement due to the affect the reduction in numbers will have on those managers remaining. Non operational managers are not happy with the whole thing, with 20% of them due to go. Latest operational figure to go is 16 across all shifts.

many non operational managers got the bullet here this week. very sad, don't like to see anyone lose their livelihood. for all the cwu's faults, its members don't get picked off individually. perhaps by mailcentres, but if they close you can transfer to the nearest one still standing. to my knowledge if one of these managers hasn't a job they have to accept a job anywhere in the country or take v/r. what a world we live in when a secretary is assessed by some tosser manager to see if you keep your job. flexible workforce the political elite would call it , those tossers ought to try it.

I think many have accepted that VR is the less of 2 evils with those that do try and dig their heels in and stay offered positions that do not match their location, grade or skill set with the threat of being taken down the conduct code and being sacked (non-culpable inefficiency) if they cannot hack it ... or more likely if their face doesn't fit. I do not have any time for managers that bully frontline staff and have said as much on many occasions however support/admin staff rarely fall into that category and simply want to do a job of work like anyone else, they have little support from their trade union and when rationalisation exercises like this take place find themselves very isolated.

Just to show I'm not blanket anti-manager despite the smear campaign, here is some advice for managers facing redundancy:

Don't take VR, hold out as long as you can. Buy a discreet recording device to protect you from covert attempts to sack you. You know the drill, they will get their favourites to raise false complaints against you. At the first attack, go off with stress and make sure it is in your medical records. When they offer you ATOS, thank them for their concern but decline their offer saying you would rather take a chance with a properly qualified NHS medical practitioner.

No need to go off with stress. Do what one of our ops managers did when told she did not have a job. She 'tripped over' a pod and went off sick for 6 months, eventually getting transfer to a Delivery Office.

I'm gone!

Took VR, not a great offer but a decent one (non-negotiable). Need to sign it in the presence of a legal representative this week, and then count down the days until I can leave.

Part of the terms state that I'm entitled to 'reasonable and paid' time off to seek alternative employment/arrange retraining. Does anyone know what 'reasonable' means.

I've enjoyed mostly my 13 years with RM but the time is right (for me) to move on.

Congratulations! :Applause :Applause
I've spoken to a couple of ex-RM managers in the past and both were very happy to escape :thumbup
Those waiting for a future management cull will be left kicking themselves if the VR deal next time round is less generous.
