Age and affects of long delivery spans

I am 61 and love the walking. I use the lwt , have my full breaks, don't come in early, and oh do not work past my finishing time. the walks might be longer but hey, you can still finish at your time

I am 63 and used as an office reserve. Joined Royal Mail 2005 replying to an ad for part-time postman, but following interview asked if I would go full time. Decided to give it a try and started on town walks and now used mainly on rurals with van. Over the years have driven all sorts of delivery vans and the one I hate the most is the Vauxhall Combo. Driving this vehicle you are too low down in the cab and at every stop you have to push yourself out of the seat using your elbows - a real effort and twisting your body. Also the seats in the older models have collasped affecting your posture even more. I find the Peugeot Bipper and the Ford Connect much better - you can just slide out of the seat.

I have no problems doing the deliveries and cycle to work, but when I get home and sit down, my muscles get stiff and ache on getting up. I find the chopping and changing of duties and different start times becoming a pain, but that is in my head! The repetitive actions and pressure to perform involved in doing the job definitely have an adverse effect on your body and I imagine your mind. Only today with Christmas pressure one postman said he felt dizzy doing the job!

My knees are on their way out big time, getting old, kayaking tomorrow can not let the job do me in, may the body give out before the mind, The visionaries of the 3 day week have taken a severe kicking by the Thatcherite children and consumerisms. Quality of life is greater than money wealth, living wage without overtime and share the work, were has it gone wrong. The delivery spans are too long for me now to have a quality of living in a first class world nation, a race to the bottom. Saw this coming years ago, its like watching a car crash in slow motion and there is nothing I can do about it.
