pay and pensions was always an easier hurdle to get over.t & c always difficult,but what we must all remember is a deal is done when us good folk say so,and not before,so if the majority dont favour this potential agreement which will be all about our t & c we bat the ball back and say sorry "mr union chap" but you must do better..

The arrival on the scene of "the locust" may be a game changer.

Everyone in the room will now want a long term agreement,It would be very embarrassing for the government if TCI start making a move to buy up more shares and ultimately asset strip Royal Mail and if the Royal Mail board still want to be in a job in 6 months time I would suggest that industrial unrest with Chris Hohn looking over your shoulder might not be good for their job security as well as ours.

TCI are purely driven by returns,they thrive on corporate instability but If they don't think the returns are there through cost cutting they will take their money elsewhere.
If you want to beat an asset stripper you need stability and the best way to provide that is through stable industrial relations and long term agreements.

The union of course will be desperate for a deal now that Hohn is on the scene,hopefully not too desperate though.

made me chuckle fishtank,all i could think of was that clint eastwood movie a fist full of dollars,royal mail on one side,cwu on the other,and chris hohn stuck in the middle making a fast buck

interesting, i know they have to appease the public,but is this usual to leave the formality till the 11th hour? or does it imply that the union is not fully suportive of industrial action??

Change for change sake, has to be consigned to the dustbin of history.
My greatest fear, is another 'deal of the century.' That truly would be the end of the road for a good many of us.

I don't know. Agreements have been voted down before. The CWU and management stood around awkwardly, coughed embarrassedly, then put out a "new" agreement with a few commas moved around.

Challenging times for RM/CWU, deal of the century " I don't think so" If there is anything to be had over this it WILL be T&C going forward, even thou my heart &soul lies with Pensions the parameters are constricting daily, GOD HELP US ALL in the future, to the gates I say and try to preserve what we have got...

Eventually there will be a deal. Only a fool wants to strike, reading some comments on here I think there are many fools. I hope our ballot result achieves a deal without us having to take any action. Gamesmanship is a dangerous game to play, both sides should be locked in a room and not let out until it is settled.

I tend to agree, Mick. It is too easy to shout "everybody out" but the reality is much deeper and darker than just taking a few days without pay.
For what it's worth, the little I have heard has suggested that an acceptable deal is indeed very close at hand, and could be settled by as early as next week. Let's hope so because whilst I am fully behind the threat of Industrial Action, I am also aware of the long term damage that really could be done to our business.
When all is said and done, the only thing that most of us want improved is the protection over T&C's, and that ought to be a problem that is not insurmountable!

Seems that you cant make your minds up,the only reasons why its necessary to hit the gates is because our T&Cs are under threat. If as you suggest its not insurmountable to make a deal on our T&C without IA then all to the good but so far we have been told the CWU and Royal Mail are miles apart.

Its not gamesmanship its an old story and I am bit tired hearing that working people standing up for themselves are the ones to blame for long term damage to Royal mail-that's never been our role in fighting for this public service.
