"so i think any extra shares held by royal mail employees will not be accessible for three years! Not a good deal especially if you need your money back now!"

Any extra shares anyone bought are not in the SIP so you can sell them straight off with a trading cost of 0.75% min fee £7.50. But i think you will have to pay CGT on the gain (18%?). Or best bet pay £10 to transfer them into a self select stocks and shares ISA for £10 and avoid the tax if you under your isa limit for the year.

How exactly could you have a certificate already?
As far as i know we get the shares at the start price NOT todays price, full time get around 606 iirc
Share price performance means employee’s £3,000 annual limit could be exceeded
HMRC requires us to value the initial allocation of Free Shares based on the closing mid-price when the London Stock Exchange closes today (15 October 2013)
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Only if the profit you make, exceeds the Annual Exempt Amount, currently £10900. To make a gain of that magnitude, would need the share price to rise still further.
Even Moya Greene, who must surely have purchased - as an employee - at least the £10,000-worth of shares in the Employee Priority offer, would have to sell the shares at a price of 690p/share to make that much profit.

Personally, I wouldn't be too upset if the share price got to that level. It would make our 725 free shares worth a very tidy £5002.50

725 divided by 39, multiplied by 35 ... = 650.64 = 650 shares (only whole shares can be allocated, obviously)

is the allocation pro rata on your contracted hours or on an average of actual hours worked over a recent period?
i know of a few 20hrs workers who regularly do more than most f/t workers, would seem unfair they'd only get half.
we did have a wtl about this but i must have been asleep.

The allocation for p/t is based on an average during the three months leading up to the privatisation. If a p/t worked on average say, 35 hours per week during that time, their allocation would be based on 35 hours not their contracted hours. There is a thread on here that explains it better...somewhere.

We're looking at around £120 per year in dividends I think. We have a fixed amount of shares so the actual share price shouldn't matter as I think RM have guaranteed to pay a certain amount in dividends for the first 2 years. At the current share price the dividend is around 4%, at the initial price it was around 6%. As I said though, it doesn't matter to us for the first couple of years as it works out the same.
