Assuming the PEC already know which way the wind is blowing which they should although obviously it can't be discussed and assuming the vote is positive the very first thing the union has to do is nail down this £300 bribe otherwise there will be big problems.

There should be no more talks until RM officially removes the £300 bribe.
We shouldn't be negotiating under those circumstances.

When they say these ballots are conducted by independent scrutineers I would have thought all would be kept secret. Am I wrong fishtank and they give running commentaries to who union or management or both?

Let's hope so Dingo, as heard it all before in 2010, & in the end had to accept what RM had offered on the table originally, so was no need to go out on strike losing money, & that was with the members backing! That is what is weakening the unions position, as in 2010 we were told the union had no plan b!

Without the government underwriting any guarantees a legally binding agreement to protect our terms and conditions would only apply to those who entered into it.

Anyone taking a controlling interest in Royal Mail(and that doesn't need to be over 50%) can quite legitimately tear the agreement up.

How close are we to getting the government to underwrite any agreement?
3 years,5 years,7 years,100 years...all meaningless without government guarantees that they would make any future owner abide by it.
Likely? :cuppa

Worryingly I don't think the union really know how their members are feeling either.

This is what i've been saying all along. The union should be in discussions/negotiations with the Gov, they are the ones who still own majority share upto now, the RM are just like a middleman. If agreements arn't signed by the Gov, they're not worth the paper they are written on!, surely the union must realise this.

not holding my breath on any sort of decent deal to be honest.it pains me to say it but the cwu will feather there own nest first, how many times have you been asked what would be acceptable in any deal on t&c.it wasnt long ago that hayes and co got a NO vote.things changed that day and the union have not learnt from it...we need a big yes vote,no doubt about it,on the whole all we have is our union to do what it does best and try and galvanise us all for the common good.but i know many, many members are quietly watching and this is what they are saying "hear what they say.....see what they do"..one things for sure, this time its for real..

I wouldn't say we want a quick deal, we want the right deal, unlike 2010. I wouldn't say it should be a knee jerk reaction either, as they've supposedly been in negotiations since April havn't they? 7 months, & going on like talks have only just started, that parties are miles apart!, do me a favour!

I am ready and willing to go out on strike but sadly, I believe we will be bought.

The pension problem appears to be settled

The terms and conditions will become meaningless unless the signatories of the controlling interests at the top stay as they are - which they won't.
Existing jobs will be relatively safe - but you won't see anyone replaced who leaves.

The problem of bullying and harassment wherever it may be, will only go away if you stand up to the bullies individually or as an office with the agreed ways of working in your hand. You do not have to follow "made up" rules. The management of the company refuse to recognise the problem because it is ingrained in their methods and is becoming endemic in employers methods under this government - it can only be stopped by refusing to acknowledge the bullies - they can only lie to you - they can't cope with resistance. But you have to be above reproach in the way you do your job !!!

What will sway our minds will be an offer of a decent pay award with no strings attached and maybe a nod to compensation for the failed colleagueshare fiasco now that the company is rolling in money.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile
