No, they banned that too. But the managers still can

Eating was banned on IPS as your hands were dirty from the mail.Soon changed when someone pointed out we will all need to drive back to the office to wash our hands to take our meal breaks!

again i dont know where you seem to be getting your information but its wrong again from way forward:southernjessy wrote:i must agree with Mandelsons toenail unless a local agreement is in place. The break needs to be taken as close to the middle of your duty as you can.The employer can dictate when to take the break but cannot be at the start or end of your duty. Legislation dictates that you are entitled to a 20 minute break if working more than six hours. Royal mail has a 40 minute break policy and again must be taken in one go. The employer can dictate when to take the break. Employees need to be given the choice if they wish a 20-20 or a 40 minute break in one go as custom and practice will set in. If management try and change these provisions, the Area reps at branch need to be informed
Meal Brakes for non-standard, as part-time and extended attendances
Part-time jobs, and full-time jobs with non-standard attendance patterns, will attract meal breaks for each daily attendance as followed, reflecting a generally pro-rata entitlement to the national weekly standard:
Attendance length total breaks probable pattern
Less than 2 hours 30 minutes none (a 10 min grace break should be provided if work permits)
2 hours 30 to 3 hours 10 mins 10
3 hours 1 to 3 hours 30 15 mins 15
3 hours 31 to 4 hours 59 20 mins 20
5 hours to 7 hours 30 mins 30
7 hours 1 to 8 hours 59 40 mins 40 or 20 + 20
9 hours to 10 hours 59 50 mins 30 + 20
11 hours to 12 hours 59 60 mins 40 + 20 or 30 + 30
13 hours or longer 70 mins 40 + 30
Pending completion of the discussions intended to conform with the requirements of the Working Time Regulations, any exceptional attendances of 15 hours or longer will attract an entitlement of 80 minutes.
The actual pattern of breaks within these rules will be agreed locally
Royal Mail does not have a 40 minute break policy where it has to be taken in one go.
the break does not need to be taken as close to the middle of your duty as you can, the working time regulation simply states the legally required break of 20 minutes for a 6 hour shift or greater cannot be taken at the start or end, it can quite legally be taken/scheduled after 1 hour
as for customs and practice that does hold a slight bit of weight but as long as RM give you 28 days notice of an intent to change it they can do that

Cant see why anyone would want to eat and drink in the workplace. Go to any factory line, up and down the country and see if they are allowed to eat at their work stations. Meal breaks are there for a reason take them, also in the way forward agreement are conditions where grace breaks can occur if workload dictates so they cant move meal breaks around to suite themselves. Just do the job properly

Re: No drinks on frames
I wouldn't call it a factory line. It's more akin to an office. I really don't see the harm in a bottle of water on the frame to take the odd sip from. I've seen plenty of coffee stained mail in the past but a bottle with the cap on isn't much of a risk.pop it in pete wrote:Cant see why anyone would want to eat and drink in the workplace. Re: No drinks on frames
But if you are working 5.15 hours every day (including break time) which comes out as 30 min break on your chart.
Would it not be the case its only a 20 minute break because 5:15 minus the 20 minutes you don't actually work is 4:55 actual duty time you *work". The break is not included in duty time
therefore 20 minute break? Because that is what i have been told!

Re: No drinks on frames
absolutely not, if you read the chart it specifically states for attendance length not duty time they are trying it onpost_bitch wrote:But if you are working 5.15 hours every day (including break time) which comes out as 30 min break on your chart.

Second, it's turn of phrase. It didn't mean they did exactly what they wanted, not to everybody anyway. But those that don't know better, or are unaware of how they should be treated etc., do get abused.
