Are you for real??????? Have the railways improved, or any privatised company? Any got cheaper or more efficient? You must be here on a wind up as I find it hard to believe anyone could spout such rubbish and honestly believe what they are saying????

as it all seems to be up in the air [or i haven't heard all the details] i thought that not all of it was to be sold, i heard government to have controlling share, i would be interested if they come with voting rights, whilst if the above carries then i guess they would be out voted on any topic but if they could get it close in a vote then that would make things difficult, all hypothetical i know, guess it will come out later on, appreciate the head against a wall, thanks for that, thought it was a sensible question

Are those workers now on zero hour contracts or minimum wage? Did they all lose their jobs after privatisation?Judgee wrote:cloherty1976 wrote:Viking we are not in a mess we are still in the dark ages and this privatasation will take us forward. Have you seen the pay on the railways? £25k+ commission just for a conductor, £40k+ for a driver, 4 day weeks, final salary pension..hardly the workhouse is it?
It works both ways, there's a lot of scaremongering also going on.

That is an extremely condescending post, in fact if you had said that off board I would have walked off in disgust.cloherty1976 wrote:Viking we are not in a mess we are still in the dark ages and this privatasation will take us forward. Try reading flyer then commenting. I said "Have the railways improved, or any privatised company? Any got cheaper or more efficient?" nothing to do with workers wages/contracts although I'm sure any long term staff in any of these privatised companies can put you straight there as they have deteriorated over the years and I have that on good authority.OnAFlyer wrote:Are those workers now on zero hour contracts or minimum wage? Re: Shares - what a joke
would we not be better talking about how much of royal mail gets sold now as it looks like it done and dusted
I think the best we can hope for now is that only 49% gets sold and the rest stays under government control.

Traindrivers have retained a relatively good wage because it is a skilled job. They need 6 months training, and the train companies now don't want to spend money on training people, so they poach drivers from other companies, pushing wages up.OnAFlyer wrote: £40k+ for a driver, 4 day weeks, final salary pension..hardly the workhouse is it?
But if you look at unskilled jobs on the railways like the track maintenance workers, most of those jobs have now been contracted out to agency suppliers who employ people on zero hours contracts and minimum wage. They don't have a pension or a 4 day week. They even have to buy their own safety gear.

And of course there is still shitloads of public money being pumped into the railways through the back door, helping to prop up terms and conditions.baldrick wrote:Traindrivers have retained a relatively good wage because it is a skilled job. To call it a privatised industry is actually a bare-faced lie.
