I think it was about 28 deg when I went home which was bearable, just. Its 30 deg now at home.

Weds is going to be the killer though. I still say we should start earlier to ensure a early finish and miss the worse.

I often feel some managers begrudge any time a postie might make yet they are all out the door asap on a sat.

In fairness he said it would be an area thing. However I sat in on the conference call and he never mentioned it.

maybe you should start at 3 am to ensure an early finish like the factories did . someone should go sick with heat exhaustion then they might listen

The later starts ensure that posties will be working at the hottest part of the day .Before you could get rid of most of your delivery before the heat really kicked in.Drink plenty of fluids ,stay in the shade ,wear a hat and sun cream.I hope that managers apply common sense .

I think it's reasonable to expect an employer not to endanger the health and safety of their employees.

And when an employer tells their employees, 'you will spend 4-5 solid hours in either 80 degree heat, or sub-zero temperatures, that employer is playing fast and loose with the health and safety of employees.

We are all of differing ages, and we all have differing tolerances to the varying extremes that the British weather throws at us.

I think it's a safe enough bet that one of us in the future, will fall foul of Royal Mail's 'couldn't-care-less about your health' attitude.

It's not just about the heat though, in the winter, especially around Christmas, we are delivering after 3pm and in the dark, which is whole new safety issue on frozen slippery pavements.

I believe if I remember correctly, that a postie did die in 2012 (yes unbelievable but we did get some nice weather early on), from heat exhaustion.

At Westminster, several MPs have backed an early day motion calling for a maximum temperature for workplaces.

They say no-one should have to work anywhere that is above 30C (86F) and those doing "strenuous work" should be allowed to down tools once their workplace reaches 27C (81F).
