"The cost of financing your future benefits (from April 2012 onwards) is significant and growing" So in one year they are up the creek? Rubbish, they just want a healthier balance sheet for the floatation.

So have I got this right?
RM wants to use RPI to set increases in pensionable pay for the "final salary" used to calculate pensions paid under the scheme that was ended in 2008? They will do this irrespective of whether the actual pay increase is above or below RPI and this is supposed to make the scheme more affordable
Isn't this the original RM proposal which was dropped in favour of using the actual final salary?
Meanwhile existing pensioners have their pension increases based on CPI?
