A colleague lost a special delivery today

The special turned up this morning in a damaged bag, so it would appear the postman did lose it and someone found it and reposted it back through the system !
I'm going to assume it has not ended there for him ?

no employee will be dismissed for a first breach of discipline except in the case of gross misconduct

And that.....

Royal Mail does recognize that genuine mistakes and misunderstandings do occur and it is not the intention of the Business that such cases should be dealt with under the Conduct Code beyond counseling for the isolated instance.

You could always have spent money contacting your (or their) area union rep. You would have got your answer more quickly as well.

While people love to help, people on forums also like to have some banter in their own time. Perhaps next time you could choose your words more wisely. Especially if you ever want advise again.

I posted my question in the Union section assuming a union rep would reply, but if this is the sort of thing I should expect, then perhaps I should say bollocks to paying my union fees every week, as clearly I won't be getting any help according to YOU.

We are here to help but you should not ASSUME you will get help, but I HOPE everyone does get the help they need/want.

Saying bollocks to paying your Union fees every week, because you did not get an answer on an UNOFFICIAL forum that is not affiliated to, or recognised by them would perhaps be an overreaction.

Royal Mail see this site as subversive and militant and the CWU see us as Looney Left Wing Radicals - they are both wrong however, it doesn't change 1 simple fact. No one should be expected to reply as all information and time on here is given voluntarily and without pecuniary reward. All posters looking for guidance and information should bear this in mind.

Then what is the point of the forum? If it is just a members play ground then why is some much effort put into laying out different forums. The op is correct they put the question in the union forum for advice on the worst case senario. Obviously discipline is not decided in this forum and it is up to individual Doms to apply the disciplinary procedures as they see fit. Surely everybodu who looks in or comments on this forum has made mistakes whilst working and they were not intenmtional. Anyway hopefully hpthing much will happen. We all have our stories to tell, like taking over a van duty and finding it in a mess, rubbish in it, mail in pouches a month old, D/L SD behind drivers seat and no spare wheel. Wheres the managers checks then?

I think the problem resolves around people demanding they are helped NOW on a voluntary basis. This site can not give official advice, only educated opinions. For official advice you would be wise to seak out your area rep if it is as serious as this. Normally it's quicker as well. Posters can be recognised only as other posters and not their union credentials.

Where on earth do you get the playground from? Slight exaggeration me thinks as there has been a lot of useful topics in the pages of the forum if you care to look.

However people using emotive words like "at last!" isn't very friendly now is it? Nor is threatening to pull out of the union because an unofficial forum didn't provide the answer as quick as what was liked or they didn't like that I had the audacity to question their morals. I certainly did not see any posts slagging off the OP for his (or colleagues) mistakes - only his attitude.

I think you know that as well. It's simple manners
