Re: national ballot for industrial action.
well, fish. dave ward seemed pretty sure. as he said,, ''conflict is inevitable''. though i think he is referring to the upcoming pay review in april. but i think you are totally correct on the point that they wont ballot unless they know they will get a yes vote. ''TESTING THE WATER'' is a definate one for them. there will be the same kind of brainwashing roadshows they had to sway the membership to accept the 2010 parcel of shyte. except this time it will be to go against rm.fishtank wrote:As things stand they won't ballot for anything because the case hasn't been made to the membership yet.
Balloting now would be suicidal and HQ know it.
Long before any ballot there will be member's meetings and direct communications to your home address.
Whether they can engage the membership to such a degree that they can risk a ballot is debatable but you can be sure of one thing...they won't ballot unless they are very sure they can deliver a YES vote as a rejection would be catastrophic.
What might happen is that a few stronger areas will be expected to kick things off with the rest hopefully being dragged into a national conflict.
If there is no Industrial Action at all this year it will be because HQ didn't have the courage(or had the common sense not) to start something they couldn't finish.
No matter what happens if it ends in failure the membership will be blamed completely ignoring the fact that apathetic members are an inevitable by-product of poor organisation, negotiation and disengagement.

Re: national ballot for industrial action.
I think the CWUs idea of conflict is to insist that the prawn sandwiches have mayonnaise on. Can the CWU carry the membership through a successful ballot for IA - well I seriously have my doubts. The case would have to be so compelling as to draw in many diverse applications of BT2010, what has become sauce for the goose is no longer sauce for the gander. A dispute over pay in isolation would not, IMO be sufficient cause for action and TBH if RM offered nothing at all I doubt the membership would react and no doubt there would be sufficient spin on it by the CWU to suggest it was a win win situation.

... and there in lies the problem.
There is nothing wrong with working docket in deliveries (ignoring the fact that after 4:30 deliveries most don't want to) - its actually get it paid in full, or even getting it paid sometimes.
I don't think a lot of MC workers recognise how difficult it is sometimes. At least when you work docket the managers are there to see what time you leave and can't make up what time they think you should have finished rather than the time you actually finished.
Saying that I couldn't work in an MC without losing my marbles, too factory like for me.

Re: national ballot for industrial action.
Twenty years ago our basic pay was poor and a great deal of our take home pay came from docket.conman wrote:do a bit of docket then instead of cutting off
The union to give it some credit realised that this was unsustainable, unfair on those that couldn't work overtime and costing jobs.
They have spent a great deal of effort increasing basic pay sometimes at the cost of other supplements and especially discouraging overtime and they have taken a lot of stick for it.
It would be a shame if we started sliding back to needing docket to take home a decent living wage.
There is also the obvious(if you work in delivery) fact that after a 4hr30min delivery not many are fit for "a bit of docket".
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Re: national ballot for industrial action.
The sad thing was the membership shat on themselves as a considerable amount (40%?) didnt even bother casting a vote on the BT2010 ballot. There is a disconnect within the CWU and unless the members hold the branch to account and the branch holds HQ to account then things will play out as before.peedofpostie wrote: just lke we all did for the 2010 deal we had them then and the union shat it not the members the top guys and they ll shite on us again who we gona turn to to stopprivitasation when all mps are for it were screwed anyway
One thing that doesnt change is the fact that business and industry rely on the postal service that Royal Mail provide and if the union is solid and organised then they have a considerable amount of clout. With the current leaderships track record thats looks unlikely but not impossible.

Re: national ballot for industrial action.
The union members were solid, RM were brought to the negotiaton table..... then the CWU bottled it, they accepted RM's view of the industry, called off the strike and then said that it was the best deal that they could get. RM were laughing all the way to the bank. And WE have paid the price.Danelectro wrote:The sad thing was the membership shat on themselves as a considerable amount (40%?) didnt even bother casting a vote on the BT2010 ballot.

As for the voting, well reps were encouraged by the Billy & Dave roadshow to accept the deal and to encourage the membership to do the same.
Now it's all gone pear-shaped they want us to do it all over again !
