Robert there have been talks on the future defcit at the Government level , with Royal Mail and at Trustees level , the money set aside for the future is not good enough.
Fish the profits have mostly been as a result of GLS and its all about what you consider a good profit and for a company who has to invest close on 7billion each year in terms of a turn over the profit is not very big and when you anaylise it even further the make up of that profit is not very attractive as GLS , Increases in price rises and the sell off of assets are not going to occur every year.
Yes the removal of the pension deficit has helped but according to Royal Mail we are in a further problem on pensions going forward.
So it does come down to the fact do the city really believe Royal Mail is worth the money and the jury is still out !!

Don't kid yourself,we are way too close to see the full picture of how a sale works..
The picture painted before the sale will be of a company that has turned it's fortunes around, fully modernised, profitable, one that has resolved it's differences with the union, brought in World Class Initiatives, closed and relocated old mailcentres and delivery offices, modernised it's fleet, trimmed the fat, lean, sleek ready for the future.
What dingo talks about is the "behind the scenes" reality but no-one gets to lift the curtain and peek at that and for the moment i don't see the union doing much to open anybody's eyes..
Unless of course the plan is to manufacture some industrial unrest...from somewhere.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Just as a matter of interest who is paying for the deficit in the CWUs pension scheme..................no there are no prizes for guessing correctly.

Re: SELL IT
Does RM ever have any positives when speaking to the union...........but I'll just bet when they are speaking to potential investor groups it's a whole different tale and I would imagine that they are likely to have a better understanding of the financial position than you know who. The reason for which is that despite any union chatter investors WILL see that the saving they envisage are instituted and believe me any comparison to RM of today will merely be in passing.
Let me take you back to the days when your electric/gas meter was read diligently every 3 months, you received a bill and the prices were comparatively affordable, move forward a couple of decades and take a peek at what RM will become and in a lot faster time. Prices will rise exponentially as services become fewer and less frequent and already parcels are being suggested to move to parcelforce which is itself under threat to the new breed of self employed..................perhaps the days of the 2000 drop letters only post is not too far away. The citadels that have long withheld from change and innovation will be swept aside.

Re: SELL IT
Robert there is a letter from John Millage from Royal Mail knocking about and it was discussed at the PEC last week and I believe an LTB as well as a Natioanl Briefing will happen before the end of the month which will all mention the pension issue.
Look we can all believe we are right but the one who is right will only be proved when it actually happens. remember Royal Mail first wanted to privitiase the industry in 1994 , 19 years on we have not got a que of people want to buy the industry.
The Union as we did in 1994 have employed a PR company which main links are with the Tories and have in roads with the city at the moment the city is luck warm to the sell off. Of course this could change but there is lots happening which may further damage the sell off.

Re: SELL IT
The city is not going to be clog dancing at the prospect of a financial killing, more than likely they will give the impression of a luke warm approach in an effort to keep the share value at its lowest - wasn't the city luke warm at I think the BT sell off and look what happened there............dingo wrote:Robert there is a letter from John Millage from Royal Mail knocking about and it was discussed at the PEC last week and I believe an LTB as well as a Natioanl Briefing will happen before the end of the month which will all mention the pension issue.

Come to think of it how many of our previously state owned companies are actually owned by the british and why would prospective investors need to be involved in communications?
Just about as usual there is to be yet another revelation of presumably epic proportions - I see it all now, the usual over large figure descending from Mount
Broadway carrying a Joint Statement carved in stone..............subject to interpretation of course
