Good! Don't get involved in politics! Get on with dealing with the business of the membership - which is why we pay them - keep the money in a special strike fund and pay the membership when we have to strike - even a fiver a week would be a recognition that we provide the finances to run the union for the benefit of the membership not the political future of the union officers.

Dam right mate. C.W.U. is too full of would be politicos who have totaly forgoten what its all about. Get out of H.Q. show your faces and enfgage with the membership. How many delivery offices actualy get to see the full time divisonal reps or area reps. Let alone the faces at H.Q. They should forget about support of other workers in other countries. Let other organisations do that. Get back to sorting your members problems out. Before your membership sorts you out. WE CANT HEAR YOU BILLY!! WE WANT LEADERSHIP TO RESPECT NOT ANOTHER CABINET MINISTER TO SUPPORT!

WHERE ARE THE UNION PROPOSALS ?????????
HAVE YOU SORTED OUT YOUR JOB WITH JOHNSON ?????????????

STAND STRONG LADIES AND GENTS,CAVE IN NOW AND WE CAN KISS OUR JOBS GOODBYE.
Its about time we all pulled our labour party subs and then lets see what brown and his cronies think of us then.WHen there 80,000 short a week lets see what they have to say about our union then. :Applause

Are you sure that the tiny amount (less than 5p i belive) goes to the labour party out of our 10 p a week political levy amount to 80 grand a week? If you look at the membership level of the CWU the amount that is raised from the political levy is around 25 grand a week. AS only a fraction goes to the labour party i fail to see how we are giving the party 80,000 a week!

What you should worry about is that those who belive in the need and want a political fund for the union but dont want any money going to labour dont have that option.

As i said before on other posts the levy needs to be split into two with members then having a choice between both levy's or just the general political levy.

If there is no political fund then the CWU will not be able to engage in political activties of any sort unless there is absolutley no cost! That is the brutal reality of the law!
It's 20 pence a week mate, not 10 pence. I pay £2.60 subs while I believe those who still pay the political fund are paying £2.80. Personally, I wouldn't care if The CWU gave Labour 1 pence per year, just as long as it's not my money. I agree that we should be able to opt out of the amount the CWU pays Labour as a sweetner, and I believe we should have a say in who gets what out of the fund. I would opt back in again if that happened. In the meantime, the CWU continues to lose money for any other campaign it might run because a growing number of trade unionists refuse to fund a party of liars, baby bombers, anti-trade unionist, pro-middle class spivs in red rosettes.

Well trade unionist+activists, now you no why the G/S must go once and for all... its a total disgrace that this person is allowed to have anything to do with the talks about are future in this industry.......I am sure that the employer is laughting ....... I think it would be much better if the G/S would turn up at childrens partys and act a clown I would say his I.Q. would be roughly the same age group........bet you the children would tell him to beat it.....so why shouldnt we. anybody who dares to tell me that this man is qualified to even make himself food, I would have serious issues believing it.

One thing I can tell you about this so called leader of goldfish because I couldnt see many people following him to be fair, is that the man can spin a yarn to get your branch dissolved.... but dont worry because in a few weeks everybody on this site can see the truth for themselfs so keep and eye and order your copy........Support the N.Ireland No1 Branch and read about the truth........

Don't forget who owns RM.

Post by andy2007 »

If the CWU wasn't involved in Politics, then it would be a lot harder for them to get involved in the major decisions regarding RM. After all the Government still owns (at least for the moment) RM, and therefore has a major influence in how things are run. Dispite what Lazy and Dozier would like you to think.

As for all this talk about joining the IWW. What (if any) active part have they taken in the negotiations so far? :hmmmm

As I have said earlier, if people are dissatisfied with the CWU then by all means, change Unions. But is this really the time to do it? :hmmmm

We are a long way into this dispute, and I am told that IWW haven't taken part in any negotiations yet. If I am wrong, then please let me know. After all, everyone should be able to make their own choices about these things. The days of the "closed shop" are long since gone.

You ARE joking I hope! Get involved in major decisions about RM? They are paying homage to a Government that was put in to power by the likes of you and me and has seriously let us down. Getting INVOLVED is not exactly the same as SHAPING those decisions. WAKE UP and smell the coffee guy!

All what talk? I must have missed that. But if anyone does want to join the IWW, they're very welcome to do so.

I was referring to the number of people talking about leaving the CWU because of the action, and that as far as I know the IWW seems to be the only other Union which covers our type of work. Although I could well be wrong about that.

But I still stand by my point, that now is not the time. We need to finish the battle before even considering changing Unions. :hmmmm And I for one intend to stand by the CWU, although, we definately need change at the top.

Most of our members are dual card carriers. I wouldn't advise leaving the CWU (or Unison, GMB or whatever) even though such organisations are reformist as they offer good legal coverage. Those people leaving the CWU are doing so because they haven't the bottle for a fight with the bosses, not because the CWU isn't a revolutionary organisation. They're freeloaders who benefit from the actions of good union men and women. In other words, they're strike breakers.
