The whole MPU concept has always seemed a strange one to me. Instead of making a bit more room in the MCs, have a load of DOs opening at night and truck the mail all over the place to sequence it Our MC was extended shortly before sequencing came in. I don't understand why they didn't just extend it a bit more (there is plenty of space to do so). That way they could have got all the machines in the MC, rather than spread them over five different DOs which all have to be open at night and have two extra runs to them, plus extra runs from there to other DOs

Staffing levels.
Why make additional duties in a m/c,especially when they want to close it, when they can make up duties in DO's using existing staff. There is also the question of distance.The MPU's are usually near to the delivery offices they a doing and this means that DO's are not waiting an extra hour to receive the mail after it has been sequenced in the mail centre.
The whole MPU concept falls down when the mail centre doesn't follow the 'plan'.
If the mail centers fall down on the plan which ours does on a daily basis what is the point,in the end the mail center increases the chance of the delivery offices failing,there is also the USO to take into consideration the later arrival times will affect the business customers,the new Kent Mail Center i understand cannot process the mail for the whole of Kent in time i understand the split and arrival of mail is poor, talking to some of the staff from down there they tell me that the mail when it arrives is not right or in good condition which adds even more pressure on the Delivery Staff, i feel that the CSS machines should be left in the MPU'S where they have staff in place to do the job and they should stop wasting money taking things out or putting them in different places it is just causing even more problems and cause even more expense.
Even worse now many CSSs are reaching the operational hours totals where breakdowns are becoming both more likely and more serious, and it all takes precious time for someone to travel from the designated MC to sort it.
Then again, RME in their short-sighted wisdom, allowed staffing levels to reduce over time in the (mistaken) belief that iLSMs and CSSs would never need attention during the operational time-span, and it's hard to send out someone on the night shift to a remote DO if it's singleton working at the MC..
