Right, ok, I have been in the employ of Royal Mail for (as I type this) 2 years 8 months 18 days 11 hours 49 minutes. Not a long time compared to a lot of the people on here.
I am employed at Plymouth MDEC. The MDEC's are known (not widely though within the Royal Mail 'family') as being a stand alone or subsidiary unit or an add-on. This is not the case as the MDEC's are ABSOLUTELY vital to the operation of Royal Mail.
As to Industrial Action, it will continue to sadden me that the support from MDEC Plymouth, and CWU Membership, are so lacking when compared to the rest of Royal Mail across the UK. This MUST change. Never before has there been a time when ALL Royal Mail staff are so vulnerable. Therefore NEVER before has there been a time in YOUR working life at MDEC (whichever MDEC site you happen to work on) that you NEED to be more concerned or worried about your future or the future of the person sat either side of you.
I, personally, would urge you to consider joining the CWU if you are not already a Member. If you are then PLEASE spread this word. In my opinion it is the best (and I have many) deduction from my wages.
MDEC staff are not as AWARE of the 'goings-on' of Royal Mail historically - mainly as MDEC's have a VERY transient population and on top of that the longstanding staff who have been their since the inception of MDEC have been, in my PERSONAL opinion, indoctrinated/brainwashed with the 'mantra' of "xxxxxxxx".
In reality, my personal belief is that MDEC staff are NOT treated wholeheartedly as if they are part of Royal Mail, nor do I believe that they are, RESPECTED and VALUED as hard working employees of the Royal Mail Group.
GOOD LUCK TO US ALL AND IF YOU DIDN'T THINK YOU NEEDED IT UP TILL NOW THEN THINK AGAIN - HAVE FAITH

It is from numberless diverse acts of courage and belief that human history is shaped. Each time a man stands up for an ideal, or acts to improve the lot of others, or strikes out against injustice, he sends forth a tiny ripple of hope, and crossing each other from a million different centers of energy and daring, those ripples build a current that can sweep down the mightiest walls of oppression and resistance.
