Postman,

No, this was not in that e-mail but senior managers do put an incredible amount of pressure on frontline managers to issue warnings. If your office sick levels are okay you may slip through but as soon as it goes above 4-6% then they check all your stage warnings, issue rates etc.

Not really allowed to manage our own units, but some of us try . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Depends on local "management"

I agree with the majority of posters that it is unethical to issue whilst someone is still absent - I have never done this.

The businesses argument is that if standards are broken then a stage warning could be appropriate, the other argument is that if someone is off sick for whatever reason they are being paid so should be contactable for sick progress meetings, phonecalls etc. My advice is that if you are off sick long term - arrange to see EHS and make sure that you have regular contact with your manager - if it is stress, depression or any other illness likely to be made worse by constant contact see EHS and they should advise your manager not to bug you.

The problems with taking sick warnings that result in dismissal to ET's is that they do not look at the reasons for the dismissall, they look at three things - Did you have a fair hearing, is the manager/business consistent in it's decision making and was the correct process followed.

Because of the way RM is now structured it is very unlikely that any absence dismissall upheld in an appeal would be deemed inappropriate by a Employment tribunal.( END QUOTE)
My experience is RM threatening people to provide medical evidence to ATOS Origin , there has been letters after 7 days threatening people with ATOS Origin . I have heard of that when RM do this "caring anything we can do for you " is people tell RM to stop phone calls as Jimmy P says RM have to begrudingly comply with the Harassment Act . I appreciate Jimmy P's clarification and not everyone blindly follows Leighton . My local experience is Stages are automatically issued regardless ,then middle mgt start to cover for ML4s botching things . When that does happen you MAY have a chance in a ET and it's a bit dangerous RM Senior Mgrs sounding and trying to act like Solictors . Not all Mgrs are that daft, but if they are more fool them.

Hope this helps
