no problem with bad back claim, left a paper trail to cover that.as for making a stand? does that mean going over an area reps head to get the div rep to sort things out and clarify ? well in my experience that ends up nowhere.. you can only piss with the cock youve got especially with an apathetic office and as pointed out in other threads even when an AR rep has tried to hold the line then HQ do a body swerve..hantsman wrote:Do you think RM will back you up when you have a claim for a bad back? This has got to be the worst thing the union have ever agreed! I can't get around, so the lino takes my packets off me, but i have still got to lapse! Work that one out!

Re: PARK AND LOOP CORRECT PROCEDURE
Its caused by people at both HQs being either out of touch (never having done a delivery or not since 2007) or its simply not on their radar. RM local managers have found what they think is a loophole and are using it. The Union think they are closing it when they issue an LTB outlining the proper procedure, but still its the poor postie facing down the manager at 9am that has to make a decision.the flying postman wrote:This has got to be the worst thing the union have ever agreed! In the past what we did was put in on the Unions radar, but that in my opinion, is a more difficult with the current "working relationship" and joint comms set up.

The problem i think is that RM use the excuse of "rogue mangers" far too often and far too often HQ seems willing to buy it.TrueBlueTerrier wrote:In the past what we did was put in on the Unions radar, but that in my opinion, is a more difficult with the current "working relationship" and joint comms set up.
This is the age of instant communication,if senior RM management wanted to bring "rogue managers" into line they could do it...in an instant...but they don't because they aren't really rogue, they are doing exactly what senior management want them to do...save money by any means necessary.
What HQ should be saying is bring your managers into line, get them following agreed procedures and guidelines then we can talk about "working relationships" and joint comms but they have put the horse before the cart and unfortunately it looks to members like management are ignoring agreements and Senior Management are ignoring the ignoring and the union is ignoring the ignoring of the ignoring.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

The only limit is the amount of hours in your contract.
If they are silly enough to give you 26 loops of 30 minutes each and you are only out for 6 hours then you can't do it without more resources.

Re: PARK AND LOOP CORRECT PROCEDURE
Whats the paper work trail for P&L, we were told P&L would start on a certain day and was up to each P&L to make up their own method. The method changes when different people are on the duties private cars are being used or if someone dosent want to work with a partner or the old drop boxes are used and the other partner only uses the van. No one got to speak to the planners. Our revision has been sucessfull.

Re: PARK AND LOOP CORRECT PROCEDURE
This P&L and working with Planners has now exposed the inadequacy of the brains and resource management of some managers.
Some just cannot get their head around the system and what it entails not just for ordinary delivery but OT, Absence and staff morale, personality clashes, SA and other issues.
My manager still expect that people will be willing to do overtime on saturdays (at the same rate, mind). It is almost impossible to take overtime work with you when you are working with a partner - are they just supposed to wait for you to earn a bit of extra. Office closes early!
People have been allowed to do OT by not working with a Partner - so they use their cars to take their own walk and an extra from another walk.
Some Managers have not planned the walks to match the hours - some rounds have been designated 39, 32, 27.5 and 24 but not all are correct. Also we have had good IPS sorters picking rounds that are partnered with 27.5 hours - we will lose some good sorters and have been left with some rubbish ones on packets/IPS.
Also when you have people off on long-term absence and holidays, we will end up with PT working on FT rounds and FT being told to do IPS instead of throwing out for partners...
The system is terrible but it is workable with good management and staff cooperation. But the example in the original psot does not conform at all to what RM has in mind.
As a (sometime) driver, I have not found the need to have smaller loops for the driver - we take most of the packets on the LWT and we drive to locations together where possible. Having drivers doing packet/specials/tracked is inefficient (RM will get unto that sooner or later) and I do not think it quicker. Why would a driver take a Special Delivery Letter when the walker/postie is going to the same location.
High Rise building - I think it is about 8kg (not 11kg). In fact, our Planner suggested we share the High-Rise building as 2 loops: one start from top and the other from bottom. Crackers
. BTW, there is 3 high rise on this P&L.
Our is working well but we have started lapsing because mail volume has been low, long absence and peopl still coming in early and not using the right tools.

Re: PARK AND LOOP CORRECT PROCEDURE
Too many loops is not a bright idea. It simply means, you will have to converge many more times before setting off again: this does waste time...
But it cannot be avoided on some walks with dead walks, poor parking and high rise and new built housing estates...
I know of a 10-loop round that works well but the average in our office is 6. The odd number loops is a conundrum and a laziness on the part of the planners. I suppose they can specify that the partners share that loop amongst themselves as they see fit. The odd loop is perhaps useful at Christmas when there is an explosion of packets and tracked

The kind of packets that delivery methods allows you to take makes using a pouch box ridiculous.
It's called park&loop for a reason.
Contact your branch and put a stop to this bollocks,if they ignore you take it further.
Get them to explain how a walker, dumped for 4hrs15min with a trolley is supposed to go for a piss.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: PARK AND LOOP CORRECT PROCEDURE
All offices must have training on P and L correct use of HCT and LWT, working as a pair, loading the vans, loop sizes, using your PDA, bag weights. All this information should be given to you before you start P and L. Videos and booklets will be available. If this has not happened then something is very wrong!
