already had the "meeting with rep " and it took him 3 months and didnt even have the courtesy of getting back to us in fact ignored our phone calls , texts and emails . So we will have to do this ourselves even though we as subscribers to the union pay them to represent us . I can see what your saying but everything must be rosy in your garden but not in ours. we have had the rug pulled from under our feet by management and our union rep where it appears to us a deal most definately has been done.

On the plus side, and I know it doesn't help you at the moment, being a fully trained and experienced CSS operator should make a move onto a mech role easier in the future if you want it ... emphasis on the word 'should'.

I see now what your saying, I dont know the in and outs of things as Im only a postman and just turn up and do my job!

It seems that there has been a major issue in regards to ho said what and how you and indeed management see the overall picture.

Is there any more news?

I worked in a mail centre in the Midlands and ours was being closed, I had to move across to deliveries. This took over 2 years to happen, but at least I still have a job, which is a good thing!

My rep at the time was always telling members in processing to hold tight until the mail centre closed as RM would have to look after us, well a job came up in a delivery office close by and he jumped ship! Couldnt believe it, I was more senior to him and I took his advice and now Im in adelivery office further than the one that my ex rep is in, so to say im not too happ[y is an under statement!!!

But the only good thing is I still have a job and I can still provide for my family!!

I know that in my office, CSS workers like to do more than 2 hours on the machine, so they do not adhere to that ruling.

the 2 hours on and 2 hours off (20 mins in a MC) is and an agreement between RM and CWU and all duty structures must comply with this. There is no doubt that staff do not follow these guidelines and aside from staff shortages it is often the operators themselves who prefer to operate the machines rather than do other work. In terms of Health and Safety Legislation provided an operator takes his Relaxation Allowance and Meal Breaks there is nothing to prevent an operator spending an entire attendance on a CSS Machine.

Yup - my mistake although the only reason there is a difference is the fact that there is more alternative work in a MC and so more flexibility on how the duty structures are put together. However I know of at least one bright shiny new MC not that far from the M25 (or the M1) where operators spend most of their attendance on the machines ... and the operators prefer it that way!!

In my office (a MPU) the CSS operators do alternate batches on the machines on wave 1 and both are on the machine for wave 2.

The reason both operators are required on the machine for wave 2 is that following the MC changeover, the only way their 'plan' could work was by cutting the time per batch on wave 2 from 30 minutes to 20 minutes.

dear happy - I find your interest in this particular issue compelling. You have only just joined - you happen to stumble across this issue and you continue to maintain your interest. You say things like - I am just an ordinary postman - I just come in and do my job etc.. . These statements don't ring true on this site and make me think you have more than a passing interest on this issue.
You also stated that you worked in the midlands yet you have friends in middlesbrough and they all tell you the rep's there are great - or words to that effect. I believe you are a rep' or a friend of rep' in Middlesbrough and you are trying to solicit information through this site. I could be wrong but due to the ongoing nature of this issue I won't be responding further to your childish taunts.
ps - there is no such thing as a happy postman unless your'e a rep' on full time release.
