Re: How much!!!!
Theres also the other issue of the higher the price of a stamp the easier it will be for the competition to undercut us.Looking at the amount of DSA this could be worrying as I don't reckon that any new entrant will lose any sleep over paying its "posties" minimum wage no pension provision etc etc

"You can't travel on a bus , tube ,tram or train" - not quite, this train journey for 75p though :dingo wrote:Personally it's. No brainier that stamp prices had to go up as it Is a shrinking market as E subsitturiton and on line banking become much Wider used. The CWU employed financial experts to examine Royal Mails books and stamp mail was losing n the region of over 150 million year on year.
Fact is it is still good value for small business users what else can you get for 60 pence ? You can't travel on a bus , tube ,tram or train. you can only get about 3 miles in a car , you can buy a chocolate bar or a good newspaper , you can't get a cup of tea out for 60 pence. yet you can post a first letter in Lands End and get it delivered to John O Groats the next day for just 60 pence now that is not bad value in this down and age. remember the alternative to price rises is reducing costs and jobs and terms and conditions.

Re: How much!!!!
Dingo, price rises are not an alternative to reducing costs, reducing terms and conditions for employees etc etc. They are as well as. Can you honestly believe that Royal Mail headed by Moya are now going to stop trying to economise and push employees to the limits.

Re: How much!!!!
ive never understood the postal business in the few years ive worked for royal mail,,,,,,dsa....what other industry allows its competitors to such actions,,,what i mean is they get the money from big firms be it banks or councils to get the letters delivered,,,and give royal mail a pitance to deliver it.
lets say this type of action is used in public transport,,,,its the same as a stage coach employee collecting bus fares,,,then putting the passengers on an arriva bus and throwing the driver a pound or 2,,,,,,the arriva company would go bust soon enough.
we deliver a heck of a load of letters with `s` in the corner or other company logos and get a tiny bit of money for it,,,,,no company can survive like this
they could put up stamps to a couple of pound each,,,,i dont see that many stamped letters in me post bag in a morning,,,obviously with the exception of xmas or mothers day

Its all gone a bit quiet on the 'Delivered by RM' stamp. Any news or has it been in the Courier?

A doubling of a cost over night is very bad news for small businesses. No matter which way you cut it.dingo wrote:Fact is it is still good value for small business users what else can you get for 60 pence ? ....

Re: How much!!!!
I agree with your argument, however franking machine prices are not going up quite so high so anyone with business acumen should have already got one and be saving money that way.Blue29 wrote:A doubling of a cost over night is very bad news for small businesses. New prices on the leaflet http://c435158.r58.cf3.rackcdn.com/Roya ... _Guide.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; shows that if they use a franking machine its only going to 44p - which is 2p less than customers pay with stamps now before the price rise.

Re: How much!!!!
Take what you are saying - franking machines are suitable for some businesses, they can be a more expensive option depending on scale of operation.
