Let's break that down halfull.
I arrive at my first loop, take the trolley out of the van, assemble it and hook the bags on then i'm ready to go.
How long does that take me?...around a minute, maybe two on a bad day.
I have 6 loops...that's....worse case scenario....12 minutes.

Now being kind we'll say someone with a pouch only takes 30 seconds but he's not going to be able to take as much as me so he will need more loops and more stops and i can take bigger/heavier packets than him so that will also take time.

As for fetching it at the end of the drive,if you are doing the job properly that's where you are going anyway so it isn't going to cost any time.
Using trolleys is slower but not vastly slower and definitely not anywhere near as much as those who don't use a trolley will try to make out to avoid using them.
Most of the time difference is simply down to the fact that you can't take short cuts with the thing.

FT.
Trolley user since 2010.
Not a manager.
Stupid.
this is possibly the most stupid thing ive ever read! since when does it take 30 seconds to pick up a pouch?(please answer that one). plus when i say fetch it from the end of the drive i dont mean shortcuts, lets break this down very very very simply for you as you are obviously struggling right i deliver my mail through the letter box now i have to walk back to my trolley stop grab the handle then start again, now with a pouch i post the mail and simply walk to the next house no stopping! now times that by 650 and you have alot slower delivery method & thats just one problem! i wont get you confused and start on the problems they cause when crossing a road, going up and down gutters so you have to find the flatter part of the gutter which takes time! you are making yourself look very silly to all past and present lwt users my friend, quit whlie your behind. im off to enjoy my sunday anyway av a gud un :cuppa

Are you trying to tell me that grabbing the handle of an LWT takes you a measurable amount of time?
Do you have to stop and think about it for a few seconds?
Don't you normally stop at the gate anyway...and then start again?
Maybe your walk doesn't have gates but that's the point i was making.
If you walk straight up the path and straight back down again the LWT won't make a lot of difference to the time taken because the only extra thing you are doing is grabbing the handle and going.
If your walk is open plan and you normally take a lot of shortcuts of course it will take longer.
I don't know why you have to be so sensitive..or abusive over this. :confused

Because the lightweight trolleys dont have pouches, just hooks to hang your bags on

our office has just started using the trollies and i will admit they r the best thing ive ever used on delivery. it doesnt save ne time but used properly it doesnt cost ne time either but hopefully it should save my back for my old age. we still have some idiots trying to make time in the office by using bags but they r now coming round to using the trollies as they r far less hassle. just my opinion.

Been doing P/L now for 9 months and using a L/W trolley adds about 10 minutes per loop (40 min loop using on the shoulder ) or 25% extra delivery time.
With 7 loops on the shoulder @ 40 mins = 4 hours 40mins
With 7 loops with l/w trolley @ 50 mins = 5 hours 50 mins
You can see why people dont use trolleys , with the bumping up steps and kerbs , the clips on the bags breaking , the security problems when going to flats .
You then have the bullying factor where drivers might not want to use a trollery because they have the easier walk.
I have been a driver and a walker but if RM start dissaplining posties for not using l/w trolleys and they are used by everybody O/T payments would go through the roof and there would be massive cut offs.

I have no experience of LWTs but I can tell you that with similar mail loads on the same walk, HCT will take >30% longer in a medium or high risk zone (leaving locked trolley out of sight for no longer than 5/2 minutes respectively), compared to doing loops by bag and leaving the trolley unattended for considerably longer.

This is due to factors such as...
The inertia of getting the trolley to walking speed from a standstill, especially when fully laden and on roads with a slight incline.
Applying/unengaging the brakes, slowing the HCT down.
Unlocking and re-locking a storage container to retrieve any packet item (as weight is completely off the shoulder), plus making sure the storage area is locked before walking away.
Opening a storage area to save the risk of carrying a loose missort or refused mail seperate from the delivery bundle (as you would not have the pouch on your shoulder).
Locking the HCT whenever it will go out of line of sight (could be a hedge/wall/flat block on residential, display shelving or upstairs delivery point for a business etc.).
Locking and unlocking the padlock used to secure the HCT to an immoveable object.
Diverting from delivery to get the HCT back in sight within the risk assessment time limit (10 for low, 5 for medium, 2 for high risk), big factor in 20+ flat blocks.

Prob a stupid question but, where does the 'live' bundle fit in when using a trolley? Is it possible to flick through as you walk and pull/push the trolley at the same time? Flicking through the bundle makes the shoulder/pouch job possible although it isn't the correct procedure.

you have to carry the bundle in your hand and pull the trolley with the other

Me neither , but he is correct.
If you use his example then that is an extra 1300 'stops' during the course of your walk ; at only one second per stop then you have an extra 20+ mins. Not quite the seamless "flow" that RM seem fond of now.
Funny how when it works in management's favour , every millisecond counts (they all add up you know) but when it goes the other way 'just get over it' :whistle

problem is with the lightweight trolley is that on my round we have lots of houses up gravel drives in blocks of 3 .
You stop the L/W trolley at the entrance and after delivering to the 3 houses you have to walk back diagnally to where you left the trolley like 2 steps foward and 1 step back.
With a pedometer you end up walking an extra mile on delivery with a L/W Trolley for a whole host of reasons from paths blocked by cars , steps, kerbs, gravel paths , skips etc.
I'm not saying its the same on all rounds but heavy foot traffic areas and small pavements also slow you down bigtime as well with buggies etc coming the other way

I never suggested that there wasn't a difference B just that when compared to someone doing the job properly using a bag it isn't anywhere near as large a difference as some who like to use any excuse not to use a trolley would have you believe.
Standing at the door checking the mail will add more time than a trolley ever will, but that's not a trolley issue it's a desperation to take short cuts and destroy the job issue.

I disagree , if we are being realistic ,how many posties using a pouch stop at each door and check the mail for the next house? when using a trolley that is more or less what happens unless you can shuffle a bundle with one hand. Add that to the extra stops and time lost is looking very significant.
Sounds good to me though, and I think we agree that you would need to be as bright as a banana to run round with a pouch in order to get RM out a completely self inflicted balls up. Sadly....

That was exactly my point Belial.
A great deal of the "extra" time from using the trolley is actually more to do with being forced into doing the job properly, checking the mail at the door and sticking to the paths not the actual use of the trolley itself.
