As for medically retiring you it sounds like it's just a tactic to get you back to work. Your union rep should be able to give you better advice contact them asap! :wink:

Lol! I see your point!

I have just gone down the same route,

Firstly get the union on board including a disability champion.

Atos is only recomendations you don't have to take IHR, Look around your office to see if there is only indoor work.

Get in touch with DOWP have a medical and try to get the condition put as a diability, I did this 3 yrs back.
All the while deliveries were 4hrs I was ok , but last year manager ranked it up and said I was going slow, so got the union involved with the area disability champion.

Managers are lazy and cannot be bothered to sort out duties for you, I had to set up my own one, though my manager is now trying to twist my atos amendment against me,.

You have to try and be strong and one step ahead of your managers its hard, but I do have the backing of my area reps

Good luck at the end of the day it is what you can reasonably do in your office.

Two definitions.

IHR with lump sum...
The cessation of employment as a result of serious physical or mental ill health (not simply a decline in energy or ability) such that, in the opinion of Royal Mail Group or associated employer, the employee is, for the foreseeable future, incapable of:

a) carrying out his current duties;

b) carrying out such other duties for the employer as the employer might reasonably expect the member to perform.

IHR with immediate pension...
The cessation of employment as a result of serious physical or mental ill health (not simply a decline in energy or ability) such that, in the opinion of Royal Mail Group or associated employer the member is permanently incapable of:

a) carrying out his current duties;

b) carrying out such other duties for the employer as the employer might reasonably expect the member to perform; and

c) engaging in employment with any other employer of a type which, in the opinion of his present employer, would be reasonable and appropriate for the member.

Make sure that you get the proper definition of ill health retirement and that it is YOUR pension plan as they differ from the Ill Health Retirement Agreement. So you need to get a copy of the Trust Deed. As you are part time, your pension will not be very high so bear that in mind.
The IHRA is an agreement between the employer and you so you do not have to be bound by the terms. The Pension Plan is a contract which has obligations on both sides.

Unfortunately, the Union are not all that trustworthy so I would be a little cautious in dealing with them as they can be 2 faced.
