Re: Blackburn postman in race row warned to 'watch his back'
Employers are directly liable under s.39 of the Equality Act 2010 for direct and indirect discrimination and victimisation in respect of recruitment, treatment during employment (such as in relation to promotion, or the receipt of any benefit), dismissal and any other detriment. Section 40 of the Act imposes direct liability on employers in respect of harassment of applicants and employees including, in some circumstances, where the harassment was carried out by a third party who is not employed by the employer. An employer is also liable for the discriminatory acts of its employees done in the course of their employment, whether or not those acts are done with the employer's knowledge or approval. Employers may also be liable for acts of discrimination committed by their agents.
"Today’s workplace has become heartless and soulless. Employees are seen as units of labour, automatons, functionaries, objects for achieving designated tasks, and as costs to be minimised."

Re: Blackburn postman in race row warned to 'watch his back'
there's no love lost between Burnley & Blackburn ....they absolutely hate each other , Burnley people are called Dingles and get taunted about being inbred however Blackburn people taunt nearby Darwen people about having six fingers too , Blackburn are " The B@*tards " , the football matches are absolutely mad ...even the reserve games have to be put on at Accrington in the middle of the two towns . Blackburn is a bit weird there's literally an apartheid line between the white and asian areas , Burnley had race riots in the early noughties , they've had BNP Councillors , one CWU Area Secretary was the town mayor . There's areas which are totally white too & lots of resentment and antagonism .
IMO - there's a lot of bad blood going back a long time , if I remember rightly there was a Christopher Eccles who apparently sailed close to the wind and he got sacked for harassment or whatever , however there was a Area Manager that had a record number of dismissals & people smelt a rat , I think a strike was threatened , that Christopher Eccles lost his Employment Tribunal ...and there were posts on here about a serious troublemaker . The general consensus of opinion was that shock horror ! RM handled a hot potato very badly , too much holier than thou political correctness ...RM are great in turning things into absolute disasters .
I remember Royal Mail getting a Liverpool Barrister firm in over the Burnley guy and his claims .
There's Racism on both sides ....at one Lancashire Office , some staff were cheering & clapping when the 911 Twin Towers news was on the telly in the canteen and staff waving newspapers with the headlines the next day . Of course RM turned a blind eye to it . You'll be surprised how much tension there is ...deliberate go slows etc .

I was working for a car hire firm at the time of the riots and we declared it a no go area lol We refused to hire cars to people living up there.
