Get a grip, guys - it's the Daily Mail indulging in a bit of Royal Mail bashing (just by way of a change).

We've got the apocryphal "postie didn't knock, just shoved a card through the letterbox".

The cliched heavily pregnant woman "forced to walk" because it was difficult to park near to the office. Apart from the obvious benefit to her from walking, the lack of available parking probably has more to do with the council than RM.

People forced to wait in temperatures of 5c. - shock, horror - positively balmy in comparison to the temperatures we were delivering in today.

Agreed there should be more staff manning the caller's offices, but that costs money.
I wonder what the Mail's take on DSA and the raising of stamp prices might be? :d'oh!

No, I meant "logic" which is why I said it-
So it's their own fault and I have no sympathy, why should RM spend millions making callers offices larger with more staff just for one f***ing event a year
Might be humourous to you. To me, it's truly sad. Those customers, eh? Who needs them?
So are you saying that RM should open a much extended callers office and to put several more staff in there....................because if you are then I agree with you but you know that RM ain't ever going to do that.
Today I had about 50 packets out with me and brought back about half so now there is no space in the callers office for my packets, maybe if we weren't worked so hard we would be willing to do a packet sweep in the late afternoon (5 to 7pm).

No the bit you quoted was not funny, the bit I quoted I thought was - thats why I used the quote feature originally it makes it much clearer. You post was immediately after a quote of the quote I used so you can see why it was unclear which post you were referring to. Anyway apologies for the confusion.

Well one things for sure.... the more the increase in packet and parcel deliveries now and in years to come.

Then the more complaints will be forth coming as a percentage and even bigger queues outside the sorting offices.

So if I can work it out, maybe management need retraining in how to assess labour requirements in caller offices. Some appear to not realise that things tend to get busy this time of the year.

The xmas cards and letters are down in our area, but packets and parcels have increased a lot this xmas.

But it HAS to be a two-way thing - they keep telling us that mail/post is evolving in a certain way (less letters - allegedly - and more packets - fact) - however I've yet to see letterboxes "evolve" accordingly - and some of them little metal boxes are about as much use as chocolate fireguards - also why the hell don't RM send out leaflets to customers in say mid/late October advising them of the various options available - designated neighbour, "Safeplace" etc etc - maybe with the headline "Save Time This Christmas !". Another thought - why don't RM set up a franchise supplying and fitting safeboxes (cheap padlock-type things up to the fancy dan combo type things) to customers houses ?

I used to try to explain that to people when they came into the DO- it was more hassle to bring the item back undelivered than it was to get rid of it, so where was the benefit in not knocking?

We all know it's easier to get rid of annoying oversized packets, they think different - but of course they are always right and we are just idle - good old tabloid mentality!

Course he fancies it, he wouldn't be doing it otherwise. Perhaps he is not moaning about delivering in bad conditions, but hoping that people give some consideration or thought to what its like. Bit like an Engineer complaining about "idiot" posties doing something to bollox a machine. If they didn't bust it Engineers wouldn't have jobs fixing them, and hopefully when he moans its only in frustration and nothing is meant by it. It'll be the same for most posties.
