Oh yes fair do's.
Interestingly as i've thought about it when we 1st changed over the guys were complaining that they had not had a long weekend, but things have sort of evened out at our place.
The problem is,well at least at my place,we are on rotating days off,so there's not much scope for the reserves apart from pot luck.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

My DUM ensures that any duty I cover will not have a long weekend even if it means making up a part timer and using me to cover a part time duty

the majority of the reserves in my office get the rough end of the stick in my office this bank holiday just gone he moved there day off to the monday therefore getting a extra days work out of em they did get there day back to use later in the year saturdays are so hard to cover in my office that if a reserve is covering a job whos turn it is to have a long weekend they always change it to a tues

and they wonder why the staff leave the reserve jobs as soon as any duty goes on the board all the hours spent on training and learning the duties gone to waste

the trouble with RM managers they run the office week to week rather than looking farther than a months time

all these issues are gonna be raised with the area rep next time i get a chance as the reserves & p/t in my office are being treated as 2nd class citzens as raised in our have your say survey this year

Mate hit ya DUM with the old ACCUMALATED HOURS for the time it should come round to YOUR long weekend... If you rotate then you should pick up a duty with a LONG WEEKEND...... So you have off one day and work the other either as docket or A/C.... Tell the REP to look into it and then steam in yaself... He will bullshite ya but keep with it as that is wots is fair......

If not then i will eat me head!!

In 4 years I have never had a long weekend, but I do have a fixed day off. Apparently when they did try to bring in rotating days off the seniors (who had Sat off) all voted against it and it wasn't brought in for my small selection.

However, some do have it in the office and I think its a good idea.

pilsbury wrote:We have this problem in our office too.Our reserves never get a saturday off they always get lumbered with a tuesday.Idon't have this problem with 10 years behind me but i do feel these reserves should be looked after better. This is a job for the union but in our office they turn a blind eye to it and just let the reserves get on with it. :no no :no no :no no :no no
But if the dutys to be covered do not have a long weekend then that's just the way it is aint it.
Our guys get a mix,but it does really depend on who's off.
I do feel sorry for them at times, but it's a seniority thing as most new comers are reserves.
Spot on postman.Reserves cover A/L and long term sick, they have a choice in seniority what duty they want for the following week and what day off it will have ,as you say it depends whos off.Would it be better for reserves to be in an office with rotating rest days?IMHO its better for new entrants to be on reserve, learn I.P.S. and walks a lot quicker. We have 2 vacant duties at our office ,both are walks 1good, 1 bad, will see how many of our reserves sign for them.
