If I remain at RM I expect I will be dead long before retirement age anyway so why worry?
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Re: Why the lack of debate on the Pension Forum
I didn't say they were not interested in their pension, what i said is that members feel their is little to choose between the disaster of receiving state aid, privatisation and the business broken up and destroyed and not receiving state aid, being bailed out by a EU rescue package...and being broken up and destroyed.dingo wrote: Fish I don't accept the members are not interested in pensions.
You seem to forget that the end game if we receive state aid is exactly what the CWU has fought against since the days of Heseltine.
Now,suddenly it's the only lifeboat avialable as the ship begins to sink.
How the mighty have fallen.
Sad day.

Yes, and there's little prospect of living long enough to draw a pension.postiel wrote:There is nothing to debate as unfortuneately there is nothing we can do about it.

Re: Why the lack of debate on the Pension Forum
The CWU had the opportunity to recently lobby MEP's to revisit the whole Postal Market and effects of Liberalisation ,all that
was needed was a percentage of meps to sign it and the whole scenario could have been re-examined.Not enough votes were
attained.
As for the pension deficit , the money lost over the 8 years of dsa and other meddling would have made serious inroads into it.
If the European gravy train doesnt totally fall off the tracks very soon they will have our pension fund as well if they realise how
much its worth
More caviar Ambassador ?

I fear our pension pot being handed over to the Chinese as some sort of sweetener to help bail out the Euro.

yes quite true!Phantom wrote:The final salary pension was given away back in 2007/2008 by the CWU, they split it from the industrial action argument that was taking place and never returned to it as promised.
So there was no fight by the members despite constant complaints to the CWU HQ to do something. In a word we got f****d IN THE ARSE!!! by Royal Mail and CWU

Re: Why the lack of debate on the Pension Forum
It would be funny if it wasn't so close to the truth, seriously do you expect them to let us have anything?? We, the 99% are being done over by the very rich and powerful (and those wanting to join them who will do anything to further that aim).Wessex wrote:Ha HaDGP1 wrote:I fear our pension pot being handed over to the Chinese as some sort of sweetener to help bail out the Euro.

Our pension is gone, it will be given away with a vague promise that we'll actually get something but we'll end up with nothing.

Re: Why the lack of debate on the Pension Forum
Fish of course realises that if the European State AId is granted than it opens the door to privatisation. However the CWU is in a catch 22 situation, if European State Aid is not granted than the company is a busted flush and will possibly go into administration before the end of 2012. If European State is granted than Royal Mail will suddenly have more cash to play with and the CWU will have more of a bargaining postion.
However what you seem to be missing is that the Government by EU Law on competition had to refer the matter to the EU commission , the CWU cannot veto this or delay it. So Europe will make a decision so are you saying the CWU should sit on the sidelines and not say anything ? What do we get out of that ?
In fact the referral to Europe actually allows us a further opportunity to oppose privatisation. The Hooper report and the original Con Dem plan that taking on the pension deficit and privatisation had to take place at the same time. Now there is a gap , until the state aid issue has been resolved than Royal Mail cannot be sold. On top of this BISS has not even decided on which privatisation type will take place. So that delay will help the union oppose the sale off again.
Now in terms phantom's point , I know that I along with a number of other reps called for a stile ballot on this issue at a national briefing in Northampton in 2008 but there was little or no support amongst some branches and divisions.
However do not under estimate the care scheme it is a good scheme.
Equally remember all the other public sector unions are having attacks on their scheme ever on RPI to CPI , increased contributions , the ending of the final salary scheme and increasing the retirement age when you recieve your pension.
The CWU is in a different position CPI on effects those who are retired now , those who have deferred pensions and only those who were in employment prior to 1987 and only when they retire. All those employed after 87 have RPI written into their schemes. The Care scheme has RPI as well. There have been no proposals to increase contributions.
The final salary scheme has ended but all service up to 2008 will still be calculated on your final salary when you receive your pension. The Care scheme because it is linked to RPI has done quite well. Members of the pension scheme can still take their final salary pot at 60 and than there Care Scheme at 65 unique to Royal Mail.
So my question fish tank given that State aid is out of the union hands what should the unions position be ?

That's simple and doesn't need debate or pension forums.
We will not accept any further dilution, degradation or denigration of our pension terms including those proposed under the Postal Services Bill.
That is a nice, clear message to put to the membership dingo.
No Brussels scare stories,no monsters in the closet, just a simple message to the membership that if this Government intends to attack our terms and conditions in any way, pension or otherwise...the CWU intends to defend those members with everything it has...to the death if necessary.
