Ok,help me out her people, why would anyone on an HCT duty walk around with a full pouch on their back.
I would understand an empty pouch 'in' the trolley to be used for flats, but one on your back!

Which brings me nicely to my next point... In theory, you are pushing your HCT around your whole walk, never leaving it locked up and unattended for more than the risk assessement for your walk? You should not be locking up the HCT to do a loop by pouch, unless you can get back to your HCT before that security risk time has elapsed. For me, this is 5 minutes.
So by pushing your HCT everywhere, you now have the weight off your back i.e. nothing but Specials in your pouch. You are not supposed to be finding room for the Specials and a looop of mail in your pouch.
I wont say your wrong as iam sure your correct and iam doing it all wrong :Applause

However what chance do i really stand in my office where 80% of the walkers use thier own cars and complete a delivery an hour quicker than a trolley pusher. There is only me and one other postie using a HCT and even he drops it half way round to use his car :no no :arrrghhh
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

No that would be madness to carry a full weight pouch. My loops from the trolley mean i normally carry just one bundle on my arm and just one or two in the bag with a few packets.

Weight of shoulders yadda yadda ect.
The HCT is effectively a mobile bag box,the walk is risk assesed,so you are allowed in RM'S eyes to leave the HCT for 5 or 10 mins at a time, thus going off with a pouch of mail and returning to HCT,as pointed out you can keep more bulky undeliverable items in your trolley, but not specials!
What has always puzzled me is,obviously Royal mail believe it's worth taking a risk using these trolleys, but surely it's less of a risk to lose a bag of mail than have someone walk away with an entire walk as this thread highlights

We have a very concerning situation in my depot. Every since the last resign well over a year ago, HCT users have never been told by managers how to use the HCTs correctly, so the current walk holders do as they were shown by the previous holders which often meant locking up the HCT to do loops by pouch. This all apparently stems back to when these walks were constructed and a previous DOM bullying the holders into bad HCT use, in order to make these walks "work." The pressure was so intense that this bad practice has been handed down through through the years, even after this DOM has left the depot!

I was absolutely horrified when I recently learnt from my depot union rep team that I and most (if not all) other HCT users were not using the designated equipment correctly. Maybe it was because most of the HCT team were non-union PT staff, but I'm puzzled why this bad practice appears to have been left unconfronted by the union for so long. Consequently, I have now changed to pushing the HCT around and my body feels less kneckered for it, I'm telling colleagues they are doing the job wrong but they do not want the stress of cutting off or authorising extended delivery pretty much every day.

More from that PDF that Postman has just linked to...
"Where the trolley is left unattended for more than 10 minutes, ALL mail, must be removed"
"Where the trolley is left unattended for more than 5 minutes, ALL mail, must be removed."
"Where the trolley is left unattended for more than 2 minutes, ALL mail, must be removed."

So unless your walk is extremely light, or you want to play Superman and carry more than you should, anything but pushing the HCT along everywhere is a danger to your health and a risk to disciplinary if things are stolen.

You know ive never had ANY training in using a HCT

Let alone a risk assessment of my walk. I remember getting one of the first HCT about 11 years ago and that had a booklet in a clear bag taped to the handle which explained safe loading but that was it.

Read my last post, you can (according to the ROYAL MAIL document in the link) leave SD's in a HCT,for a set time at least.
