Agree with the 1st one obviously,but not so much the 2nd one,local agreement for my lot got us a 4 day week,we went outside the national agreement and against uncle Bobs advise with 4 hr walks with P&M.

I know a lot on here baulk at local agreements but they can be beneficial.
Oh and ftr,i wouldn't touch banking hrs with a barge pole.

If all it comes down to is what you can get for "your lot" there isn't much point in a national union at all.
There is no doubt that offices who moved away from the 3.5hr maximum delivery span not just in your area but others too...weakened the unions bargaining position nationally for their own local gain.
It's hardly what you would call Solidarity.
There are two reasons why we have national guidelines,the first is to protect the local union from making an arse of themselves and the second is to stop the local union making an arse of the national union.

Our lapsing should ended at the end of last week, I was curious as to why we were still lapsing, I then found out today it has been extended until the foreseeable future !!!!!!!!!

Who the hell agrees to this, surely a decision like that has to go through the union ????

Our rep who is based at another office is crap and I will bet £1000 he has not even bothered from day one.

It makes me wonder why I bother to pay my subs every week to have a rep who doesn't give a crap about members.

And before someone else says it, I have never voted for him, in fact I have never ever been given a voting form.

When the number of consequential vacancies in the resourcing unit reaches 5%, or after a period of six months following the last such exercise (if earlier), the posts will be advertised in the resourcing unit, en bloc and filled on the basis of seniority.

CLARIFICATION FROM THE CWU AND ROYAL MAIL

Introduction

Further to the letter from Royal Mail’s Operations Director this joint clarification provides a simple process for delivery offices to follow when dealing with vacancies.

All vacancies should be dealt with in line with the national agreements covering efficiency savings, Way Forward (Way of Working) and the Industrial Relations Framework. Both parties confirm that there is no embargo on either full time or part time recruitment,

Process

1. All impending vacancies should be identified as far in advance as possible,and in sufficient time to fully utilise the IR Framework.

2. Once identified they should form part of the local weekly resourcing meetingsand/or monthly resourcing/strategic involvement meetings. Time should be set aside at the weekly resourcing meetings to discuss longer term resourcing issues not just the week ahead.

3. Where a mutually acceptable solution cannot be found at the resourcing meeting then formal proposals regarding the vacancies should be exchanged and the full terms of the IR Framework followed. Both parties will commit to
concluding the process within 4 weeks.

4. There will be isolated incidences when unplanned vacancies occur. These should be the exception rather than the rule. When they occur offices will in the short term cover the workload in line with normal local procedures and
national agreements. The long term solution should then be agreed in line with process above with each case dealt with on its individual merits.

Efficiency

Where unplanned vacancies occur and the units agree to fill vacancies on reduced hourage while the process above is being exhausted, any savings agreed in the final deal will be backdated. Savings will be accrued in line with the efficiency agreement from the date the reduced hours are introduced.

Any problems encountered over the application of this agreement should in the first
instance be raised with the Divisional reps, who in turn will raise any ongoing
problems with the outdoor department. Any points of clarification or issues affecting
the interpretation of the agreement should be raised with the outdoor department.

So going by that vacancy agreement, does it mean vacancies must be filled ?

Because our office has a vacancy but instead of filling that vacancy it is being lapsed !!!!!

No its not that specific.

The only specific thing is that you only have to work your paid hours and overtime is voluntary.

No national agreement on lapsing but employees should work all paid hour's, Overtime is rarely offered intimidation is rife and the bullying is ratcheted up if you do not take it or do not complete your own delivery because of it. This April we have an opportunity to right these wrongs and many more if our union and our solidarity in the cause is for the just and fair treatment of all in our union against the might and oppression of Royalmail! We should all get involved in this struggle for our rights for it is our right to say how we work for the company and are not owned by the company!
