Royal Mail want to make copies of my passport

They did this at our place about 4 weeks ago. Just came around and placed white envelopes on certain people's frames

Showed my passport about 5 years ago when they were checking the licences because loads of people were driving the mini buses that did'nt have that entitlement....managers just removed the extra seats

to be fair if hes been working for rm for 9 years then hes allready a british citizin!!

No, you can only acquire British Citizenship by naturalisation, registration or at birth. An illegal immigrant can stay in the UK for 14 years and if no one notices, they can be granted Indefinite Leave to Remain or permanent residency status. Not the same as a British Citizen but they do have the legal right to live and work in the UK.

Then Royal Mail can dismiss you. Sounds harsh, but they're only being fair - everyone has to comply.

Your old passport will do it does not have to be in date! I told them mine had expired and they had no problem with that!

To me it seems a reasonable request in the light of current legislation and according to the CWU there is no hidden agenda - there always seems to be a problem when issues of this nature occur.......................I mean I'm in favour of ID Cards, after 5 years you either deport or jail those without. It has been seen on some programs on TV how easy it is to get NI Cards, Driving licences etc.

In the event that employment was terminated would you not need ID

Just get yourself the passport, even at £100 it's only a tenner a year..............and then you can fly off on holiday at short notice without the running around trying to get one at short notice.

ps. make sure you don't get the short certificate, RM don't like them

Worked for RM for nearly 13 yrs, I was asked to show my passport a couple of months back told them it had expired which wasn't a problem because it was still valid when I was first taken on
