Prior to implementation of a revision, reps must ensure that the revision is compliant to all health and safety standards and signed off / confirmed as such by the WSR/ASR and that all equipment for the revision such as trolley’s, vans will be in place for the commencement of the revision.

I don't see anything in there about using pouches instead of trolleys.

From what I can see with the use of trolleys ( especially in my old office ) slows you down . Some colleagues are still out to finish as quicky as possible by using their pouches and rushing around...

When will they learn....

.........So during the winter months when there is snow and ice are we going to be expected to pull our HCts and golf trolleys about or will they then be telling us to carry light pouches on our backs

There is a joint severe weather policy in which they never want to implement . We gave a copy to everyone and shoved under the linos noses. However some who had it,(and sneaked out) fell on their asses.

Here it is here : http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?7tcb775xacvbytz" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Feel free moderators to put it in your download section,(if you have not got it already).

Also when you see your local rep make sure the policy is implemented,(or in the resource meeting) in September. This should be generic anyway.

Ok FT you are the authority im after, because my own side has gone very very quiet with Monday fast approaching, if you say that this is catagorically wrong and pouches are not to be carried on the back - with any amount of mail inside (except flatts and out of sight occasions)then i will take up the fight again. But iv made a complete arse of myself forcing my own people to use trolleys when they really didnt want to (and apparently didnt have to), AND policing it on my own so please be as absolute as you can about this.

You have 3 problems.

1.The members are not the sharpest and seem to still think that quick is best.
2.Management don't like the trolleys because they cost time.
3.HQ and in particular Dave Joyce doesn't seem interested...strange after all the "doing the job properly" stuff.

The bottom line is you've had a delivery methods revision based on the use of trolleys, those are the methods assigned and their use is mandatory.
If your manager wants to change the delivery methods he is basically rewriting the revision without CWU input and that is executive action...time for disagreement on monday morning and as you know during disagreement status quo remains in place so no pouches.
You may also care to remind him that there is no agreement on longer than 3.30 delivery spans with pouches... :whistle

Actually yes, great FT if they want pouches then they will have to reduce, and the money and time they have spent implementing this then that will go down like a lead one. That'l do for now, thats really dissapointing but confirms what im finding out that certail within HQ arent too bothered about the specifics. But thanks.

ronpetetrevchris wrote:yes, but it says reducing the impact of weight on delivery. This is where they are saying its fine. If each loop is 45 mins and so the maximum they are going to carry in a pouch is under say 11kg then that is a reduction in weight.

They say if there is no more than that a bag can be carried on the shoulder as it should be when delivering to any flatts or any other situation when the trolley would be out of sight.

This was a pretty experienced table i sat with and they all agreed this was the way and that common sense was DEFINATELY the way it was designed to be. I have to add both me and my area rep have mentioned this to his (area rep) higher number and he was told the same.
this is completely wrong! i have the area h&s officer in my office & my earlier post is information right from his mouth so take it as the truth! once you have gone live with p&l you CANNOT do your loops from a pouch!

drb wrote:Sometimes people have to learn the hard way. I have thousands,(and I mean thousands),of back and shoulder issues throughout our area. Most of them are members under 30. I have arranged DWP assessments and occupational health assessments with the majority over the 14% threshold,(DDA),they will be receiving disability benefit now. Countless Ill Health retirement appeals. I have not the "bottle" to tell these members that their backs/shoulders WILL effect them for the rest of their lives. The cause? Yep! Weight on shoulders,(and carrying over weight bags).
Im my veiw and many others in my office and more and more people every week, want to use a Trolley regardless of the rules, some people dont and never will, but then feel the weight of their bags !

The human body is not meant to carry such weights daily and pound the streets !

The amount of people with leg problems due to pounding the streets daily is bad enough wich eberybody chooses to ignore
let alone carrying heavy bags on your shoulder.

Still if you want to finnish early ,carry a heavy bag ,run around like a idiot till.
A -YOU INJURE YOURSELF
B- YOU ARE GIVEN MORE WORK TO DO FOR FINNISHING EARLY
C-BOTH !
