The real question for me at the moment is how are we going to change this in order to get the best 13 representatives in the UK onto the PEC?
You need to first draw out the best candidates and while the NEC/PEC gives the impression of being a closed shop you never will.
The union has to give it's membership and representatives a real feeling that it wants to change, open up and modernise...at the moment that's the last feeling you get.
I don't think it gives the closed shop impression. 2 new people got on last year.

Kye, Steve and Tony are new candidates this year.

Drawing out the best candidates then getting the membership interested are the key challenges.

I know this is all very unscientific but worth pointing out that the 2 candidates who are posting, or maybe openly posting on this site have the most votes on this poll.
i suspect they wont do as well in the actual vote, not saying they wont get elected just that i doubt they will be 1 and 2.

What you need to ask yourself though Belle, is why?
Is it just because they could be bothered to make contact, or because they've won people over through the debates?
If it's the latter. Then that's a very strong case for all candidates in the future to enter into debates with the membership, instead of just providing a brief election address. Now I'm not suggesting that they should all use RMC for that. There's also Facebook, Twitter, etc., so it's up to the candidate which site they use. Although they'd need to mention in the election address, where to find the debate, so everyone could find it. You might also be right, that the results Nationally won't reflect what we've seen on here. In fact, I'll be amazed if it IS the same (we still only have a fraction of the total workforce on here). But unless you're seriously suggesting that people are simply voting for them because they've seen them on here. It does show the way to improve the voting process in the future. Perhaps it's the fact that people don't usually know much about the candidates, which prevents a better turnout. :hmmmm

Got it in one.
Other than their local choice i would doubt if the majority of the membership could pick the rest out in a lineup never mind tell you what they had achieved.
That's the point of failure....communication as usual...but it does suit some candidates if they can poll well in their local areas..... :whistle

I choose NOT to vote for any of them, I refuse to partake in the election of people foisted on me that will do what they want irrespective of what the membership want by an HQ that are about as far from democratic as it is possible to be. We have already been told by some CWU officials on RMC that voting for anybody with a different view point (that may represent the members?) from the rest of PEC will not change anything as they will be just one person against the rest of PEC and they will basically be frozen out so why on earth any member would vote for NO CHANGE is beyond me, this is a sham election with the Union bosses pretending to give us democracy knowing that their aspirations not ours will prevail no matter who is elected. By casting a vote in the real sham election members are just legitimising more of the past for the future.

Why? He is not the only PEC mbr (who agreed to put 2010 out to ballot with a recommendation to vote yes) seeking re election.

If its your Saturday issue well here's a little info Annual Conference INSTRUCTS the NEC/PEC, conference has many times passed motions that the NEC/PEC/T&FSE have opposed. I went to Postal conference in 2008 and I saw this happen with my own eyes and heard it with my own ears.

There are a few experienced reps/branches who support the Saturday change and they need to get a campaign going to change. Then you never know one year Conference may just vote for change.

It is for Conference to decide on the Saturday issue.

?????

What guy who wont vote?

I don't know what you are talking about, please elaborate and then stop complaining on RMC and get campaigning. Saturdays off will not just fall into your lap, you have to work at it and persevere. The forefathers of the trade union movement didn't just sit around complaining they got off their back sides and fought for better terms and conditions.

Maybe or maybe not but i do know that voting will definitely not change anything! If thousands if not tens of thousands of members deliberately spoil their ballot papers in protest we could force the Union bosses to at least take notice. This form of protest is called direct action and although a small step, it is a small step in the right direction whilst voting for the same thing that many of us hate is just standing still. Still vote away if your happy as i am happy to spoil my ballot and send my own message.

Nobody cares about spoilt papers.
Nobody cares about non-voters.
Of the 129,291 eligible to vote last year 115,302 didn't.
That's an 89% vote for apathy...how much bigger a message do you want?
What difference did it make?....None.
Non-voting helps those who cannot get a mandate through the full membership but rely on a low turnout and a strong local vote....it's the same with branch voting...you make sure your mates vote and hope nobody else bothers but you're right on one thing....it's a long way from democracy.
Same old,same old. :cuppa
