Thanks for giving such a straight answer. It's been a breath of fresh air discussing the issues with yourself and Kye Dudd, rather than just getting a brief summary of what you stand for. I am voting for Tony Bouch and he is being recommended to the members in Bristol & District. In another thread Dingo basically states that noone who is elected will change things dramatically. This is again an argument for no change. The facts are that new ideas are needed. Like Dingo I supported change in 2000-2003 and initially a number of the people elected provided a fresh impetus and a change of focus. The facts are that some of those individuals that I respected have grown stale now and as a result the CWU is drifting without any meaningful dircetion. I have seen Postal Executive members sat around CWUHQ in shorts recently and this is ridiculous given the challenges faced by the Union.

I like to judge people when they are under pressure. Even though I have disagreed with Tony on some policies he walked the walk in 2009 and got his Branch (like my own) to take strike action before the national dispute in support of London and Scotland. Plenty of people in a Conference hall made grand statements about how they would take rolling strike action but few actually delivered.

This is one of the reasons why I support Tony but there is also no doubt that he has transformed his own Branch into one with a voice.

Change will only be delivered if people are confident enough to argue for alternatives. There are those in the Union who see this as a threat. So when you vote think about whether you want exactly the same people on the NEC / PEC for the next two years or want a change.

I want a change and thats why im VOTING FOR TONY BOUCH

On that specific communication I think it was too long.

HQ would have been better off sending that sort of detailed brief to all representatives with a shorter, sharper hard hitting version going out to members.

1. Personally against, my branch reccomended a yes.

Two key points to make on that though to add some context. On a personal level I voted no because I felt that the agreement left far too many issues unresolved that would ulitimately lead to another dispute. Time proved that right. I have to say though that the Branch recommendation was entirely in line with the members thoughts. My Branch delivered one of the highest YES votes in the initial strike ballot but then when the deal was put to members they votes by a huge majority to accept the agreement (83% from memory). This clearly shows that despite my own personal thoughts the members in the Branch were supportive of (a) the action and (b) the resolution.

2. Personally Yes and my Branch Yes.

I voted yes (and the Branch) because we felt that it was the right time to settle for a number of reasons. Outside outside of London, Scotland and Bristol my members took more action than anywhere else in the UK during 09. I feel that gives me the perspective to judge where we came from to where we ended up. We took local action to defend the CWU because we felt that RM were trying to kill off the Union. We felt that the one major achievement of BT was putting the Union back in the room. I do not want to get into a huge debate on BT because that has been done and there are clearly a lot of issues with RM not abiding by the agreement. What is clear though is that in some areas history is re-writing itself. We witnessed in some parts of the UK people struggling to hold strikes together. People were drifting and a call had to be made. I know personally that on conference calls I dialled into that if the last days action that was scheduled (called off at the last minute) went ahead then we had widespread problems. The trouble is that people forget that over time.

The agreement is far from perfect but we have seen progress in our DOs with the SWW, £800, 1in4 Saturdays etc. There is a long, long way to go and one of my key aims will be to push back on what RM are moving away from. We need some serious solutions to a number of issues in deliveries and I will hope to play my part if elected in gaining the agreements needed to solve the problems.
