its RM who should shake off the idea of posties making time.

people work at different speeds for varying reasons and workloads vary from day to day.

job and finish solved a lot of problems and arguments and if RM actually made walks that were acheivable J+F make perfect sense.

firstly DO NOT GO INTO WORK BEFORE YOUR START TIME.
secondly FINISH TO YOUR CONTRACTED HOURS.
if all staff followed these two steps, our job would be so much easier.
come on you weak staff out there show some guts and bloody stick together.

were just going through a re pick soon but trying to get the union involved, full timers are ok ,its the part timers who are going to suffer ,im on 36 hrs a week ,work longer hours than full timers,go over most days totally fed up,and guess what they now want me to deliver parcels and tracked items from a van,im currently using a bike, all i want is to work approx my 36 hrs per week im fairly senior so will prob keep my duty, told the dom my hours are wrong, but guess what he makes excuses up all the time.HAVE NOW DECIDED AFTER RE PICK WORKING TO MY FINISH TIME,just wondering if i do this will he put me on other duties if so i will just have to grin and bear it.

Why accept a Part Time Contract if you need a Full Time job to pay the mortgage ?
Wow, you can get a mortgage?

Theres are tens of thousands of people in this country on vastly superior wages who cant.

May I suggest you be thankful for what youve got and dont bemoan what you havent...
firstly iv had the mortgage many years there, is no way i wouldve got one now i work for royal mail and luckily the mrs has a good job.

secondly how bored do i get of hearing the line" be thankfull you got a job" sounds very much like my dom

agree totally,, and this plays nicely into royal mails hands,, at a guess i would say that quite a high percentage of part timers are not union members

NON-FLEXIBILE wrote:one thing all part time delivery staff should do is forget about being on a 40 hr or 39 hr contract that aint gonna happen 30 hr maximum.
i been workin for this firm (its not a public service anymore) for 23 yrs and guess what they told me at the interview "you will probably be on full time hrs (41.1/2hrs)
within 2 months it took a transfer to another office and 4 years before full time. any full time jobs that go out of delivery will never be replaced. :evil/mad
Our DOM has had part timers made up to full time and other part timers contracted hours increased to maintain the office profile in line with the agreement and has assured us that staff leaving or changing contracts will continue to be replaced like for like. We are doing our bit - he is doing his !!! We have had continual staff and duty reductions over a number of years so maybe we have now reached an optimum level and RM are happy with that.
We wish to serve - but we will not be servile

I'm just pointing out that in a previous post you are saying YOU WORK OVER and when the repick happens you are going to work to time and in another post you are telling people to work to time.

Mentioned this problem to our Area CWU Rep before the last Industrial Action Spen. PTers were being asked to "work properly" and I pointed out you can't live on those hours. His answer made sense. If YOU are happy to work any extra hours and the DIM IS PAYING YOU FOR IT! Then no problem. :Very Happy

What they were trying to stop was ANYBODY working for FREE. Not claiming Meal Relief or OT and coming in early for Free!. As for the "Lucky you've got a job/Why accept PT/Be grateful for what you've got" Brigade. Let's try and be a bit more supportive guy's we get enough grief from Management! :mad How many of the names at the bottom of the page never post anything as they're worried they'll get a good slagging down. :no no

Looking at this thread and the arguments that arise between full timers and part timers, it is distressing to realise that Royal Mail has got us all by the b-ll-ks. There is absolutely no chance of a united stance against this ruthless employer as there is far too much personal intervention due to individual circumstances as a result of part time and full time contracts. I fully understand why some part timers need to work over. I am part time but fortunately not in a position to need to work over. An ethical employer would have an automatic system of moving part time to full time as soon as there was a position. This employer choses not to, as it can exert more control over a workforce that is divided and has no power to change the system.

Totally Agree Lincox...Divide and Rule a centuries old Management Tactic! :Very Happy As for ethical employers I'm sure RM would have 5 year old orphans sorting on IPS (ala SE Asian sweat shops) if they thought they could get away with it, and it'd help their Bonus'! :no no
