It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I wouldn't sweat about your break. When are you supposed to take it? If it's before you go out then you could keep the driver waiting and/or miss a special delivery deadline.

I just dawdle at bag drops and have a crafty fag, if I'm feeling the strain a bit. And if I get back a few minutes early, then all well and good.

In general, the first few weeks, or even months can be tough, unless you've got a very well-run DO, and wonderfully caring colleagues

P.s. If you've got a birthday or something coming up, it might be worth asking for a Berghaus, or similar high-quality waterproof jacket. Got mine a week ago and it's brilliant. Rain is something that happens to other people now :nana

The guy's new to the job ffs, no need to have a go at him for not taking his break. I was there weeks before I even knew I was entitled to a break, it's not something that management actually tell u about is it?
