The CWU needs to get over its hang up of job losses meaning less members and get us on Monday to Friday with a skeleton service provided on Saturdays paid at SA rate!
I can understand your sentiment but disagree.
Everyone would like a 9 to 5 Mon to Fri job - BUT - this isn't. We shouldn't sacrifice other peoples jobs for the sake of a comfortable existence. Anyone who took this job on knew the hours and days.
That's not to say we shouldn't aspire to a five day Mon to Fri job - BUT - it would need to be thought out and only voluntary EVR should be considered. It is not our fault we are in this predicament - some years ago when we went from a six to five day week with an attendant increase in staff - that was the time to drop Saturdays. Now it is quite a conundrum.
Perhaps people would be willing to do it area by area and surplus staff moved about - I personally wouldn't.
I agree with you Big Daz it would be very popular in my office too. If they could lower staffing with EVRS and normal wastage im sure mon-fri would be very popular.I could only go with this if people were not pushed out of the job this i am 100% against that.Leave yes,Pushed no.
I can't see there being a skeleton service on Saturdays,when bulk mailers got the wrong end of the stick a couple of months ago when they thought RM we're thinking of dropping Saturday deliverys they went mad.
Now that DSA goes on a Saturday and is probably as cheap as Mailsort,Saturdays are going to be one of the busiest days of the week.

Given that receiving customers resedential and small, medium sized buisnes customers have said that saturday is the least important day for mail delivery then the bulk posters need to get in touch with reality.

I hear what you are saying but you don't address the staffing problem - are your lads and lassies going to be in line for the job losses too because losing Saturday delivery would entail one in six.
